If the B57 isnt already in the US, no way it makes it in a niche vehicle. Bummer, I thought BMW had done the leg work on that. Oh well...

Unfortunately for those of us in the US market, it is not. We used to have a 330d and that was a phenomenal power plant well even before they started stacking turbos on.

why the hell is it using a BMW engine?

I dont think there is a lot of straight 6 petrol or diesel engines in the 3 litre range being made these days. 4 cyls often have a harshness trying to power a vehicle that is heavy.

Yep. I've always liked the idea of being able to push or tow start a vehicle.
Yup. And manuals are just more fun to drive. Autos can get expensive if something goes wrong.

Either it will be 40k and they have no profit, or it will be 140k and barely make profit. This looks way too nice for a 40k vehicle. Especially since you can get a super well equipped bronco for 40k, I feel like it will be a hard sell for a lot of people. I’m glad more people are entering the “jeep” market to challenge the wrangler though. Competition breeds innovation.

Although on another note, in my opinion, this is exactly the dream 4x4 I would have. BMW has an extremely reliable inline 6 gasser, and the ZF auto gearbox is super fast and super good and robust. It’s been proven in several high horsepower cars as a good transmission. You are supposed to be able to hose out the floors too, and the buttons are solid and not some weird touch screen thing. Apparently the seats are manual, which is something I love. Automatic seats seem like something that exists for no reason. It’s slower, heavier, and less reliable than manual seats. The look is also amazing, and it has double solid axles, which is very rare in the USA. It may take a few years for the kinks to work out, but it has the potential to be one of the most reliable trucks in America, especially with the land cruiser leaving.

Mid $40Ks was a rumor from a year or two ago. I read an article yesterday speculating a US price between $75-120K depending on options. That would be unfortunate. I think that a realistic best case scenario would be low spec in the mid to upper $50s. But, we'll see.

Low-volume boutique made 4x4 with a BMW engine is not going to cost $50,000.

TLC is cranking out trucks at $200,000-$250,000 a pop.
