I'm going to look at a '95

$7900 for my 95 in June of last year. Some rust spots on hood, detailed records, good rubber, but dented front and rear bumpers. Since purchase I have put about $4k in to repairs and PM. Birf/Bearings and brakes, water pump, all fluids, all shocks, PHH, all hoses, wires, plugs, distrib, rotor, front brakes, new head lights/ Slee harness, George's lights, belts, EGR and vac assembly and battery. I would look at all to see what has been done. Plus look for leaking window seals. I had to do front, rear and both quarter panels strips. Wow I thought Igot a deal. Good luck!

And the manager was not too happy - cut into their profit.

That's weird... EVERY used car I have ever purchased was cutting into the manager's profits ~ WAY below what they paid for it.

The way they explain it, I'm always getting a heck of a deal because they really like me and want the car to go to somebody who'll appreciate it. They all assure me that they can afford to do it once in a while, but they'll have to make it up on another car. Man, I guess I must be the lucky one.

Still, you are several $K under what I paid for a reasonably built-up '95.

I went and looked at the 95. It was 1/2 qt. low on oil, and there was a leak, but I couldn't find where it was coming from. The owner tells me it's either 1) the oil pan gasket or 2) the main seal. In other words, it could cost between $2. and $500 (?) to fix it. The brakes were mushy, and the leather looked like hell (I guess that's typical). Someone has scratched the window glass from the inside on the passenger's side--not a great deal, but they got every window. Exterior was in great shape--normal nicks, but no accidents, and paint in good shape. Antennae broken off, though. No rust. It did have lockers that've never been used. No signs of impending birf trouble. Apart from the oils leak, fluids looked good and clean (which makes me wonder how fast that oil is leaking).

Oh--it's a 95 but it's got moonglow pearl paint. The code is 1A6.

I decided to have TLC4X4 inspect it for me and go from there. Depending on what's causing the oil leak, I didn't find anything to make me run. I wish they'd taken better care of the interior, but I guess that's what happens when you use it to haul three kids around.

I might own an 80 very soon . . .:)

Just FYI, because of the tight location of the filter, lots of folks tend to be messy when changing the oil. I have seen a couple trucks that appeared to be leaking and it was just drainage mess. With TLC on your side, you'll have some solid ammo for negotiating with the seller. Good luck.

Thanks! I forgot about that. I seem to recall making a similar mess myself once, so it should have jogged my memory.

ask them to check for headgasket crusties, bubbles, and the like, and maybe do a compression test or leakdown if not expensive.

From what I've been told the "mushy" brakes are normal for LCs. I thought the same thing with mine. Lots of pedal travel before any action, but they work fine. Brake pads are fine all around, fluid is normal level and all.
