Ideas for mounting a gun to the console?

This is my center console setup. A magnet mount secured with two screws that tap into a scrap piece of wood wedged in the void below. It is not a model specific holster so I can carry different sidearms depending on the situation.
Good stuff! I did see a few of those magnet mounts yesterday. I was concerned about how well they would hold the gun. Has it ever rotated on you or moved around? I don't think that would hold up well outside of the console with some heavy wheeling. Might send the gun flying in the air I would think...

I did fail to mention in the first post though that I'm a lefty :hillbilly:

you should look into one of the holsters that mounts to the pivot section on the side of the seat then. that will mount to the left side of your seat, visible when door is open, but no so when doors closed, so if you forget, not sitting out open where people can see.

A possible solution then since now we are throwing in "off-road" as a facet, you might look into the Fobus holsters & either drill out the rivots on a LH draw clip & mount it into the door map pocket (access is great, I can attest to that) - then permanently mount the holster in the pocket & use the drilled out rivot holes as where you mount it through the map pocket.

Or a LH draw with the belt clip left on, so you can take the whole rig out to use, or to just see how you like it over there temporarily to decide if you want to do the permanent mount method - that would be super secure as I don't even have any movement of my carry piece in the pocket out off-road just using the clip the Uncle Mike's has - I've worn the foam off the nose of 2 & replaced & the clip hasn't deformed or lost its' grip over all the years I clip it in the door then transfer to carry in the waistband of my clothes.

Another part of this to consider is your state laws on CC regs & what constitutes the differing between 'concealed" & "plain sight" - if you don't have your CCP & Johnny Law sees a firearm, it could get exciting in all the wrong ways in a routine traffic stop. I have a few differing (FFL, CCP, etc.) permits & even I am surprised sometimes at how odd some state laws vary so greatly.

I know my suggestion is legal in WA, but I have no idea about CA - it's a big difference the short 1000 miles between us.

I guess where ever you decide to mount it. You will just have to practice your draw. ( I saw a training video a awhile ago showing how to draw while in the drivers seat so you dont shoot a hole in the dash or your leg)

I have a Fobus paddle holster that seems to work good. You can also adjust the angle of it where its mounted. Something that protects the trigger on the Glock will be a plus also if you keep one in the chamber. Just my 2 cents.

Also. Thanks Nuclearlemon for cleaning up the thread.

Excellent point - self inflicted gunshots don't do anything for gun owners credibility as a whole. Pun not initially intended.

Does Glock make any Double Action models? I was under the impression they were all single action & with the safety being on the trigger arm.....well, the math is easy to me. The only Glock I personally have is a G33 (the pocket rocket 357Sig), and get them for others on occasion but don't really know if there are differing models like how Sig has the DA/SA options on the 22x & SigPro models - at least I've never seen a decocker on a Glock or it as a option on any model I've ordered for others.

+1 to the Nuke for cleanup work.

Glocks are double action only. Single action only would be an old Colt cowboy pistol that would only shoot if you pulled the hammer back each time. My HK45c has been converted to double action only (LEM mod) with the safety removed so it basically shoots like a Glock now.
I usually leave it in it's holster and stored in the center console. I try not to drive with it on my body. I'm an average size guy and its a fairly big pistol for a "compact" to try to keep concealed getting in and out of a vehicle. Most times it just lives in the console/glove box of the vehicle I am driving. I usually carry another pistol in my Maxpedition messenger bag or if I don't have that I have a small Ruger LCP that fits nice in my front pocket.
In Texas pistols in vehicles have to be concealed so that rules out the under the steering wheel type holsters or clipping the holster to the door storage. I do clip mine to the door when I am on my families ranch.

Do you have a name/brand for these? Don't think I've seen those before...

Technically Glocks are striker-fired vs being double-action. But that's kinda nit-picky.

If I were the OP, I'd learn to shoot weak handed. It's pretty tough to address a threat on the drivers side with a left hand. There are many more options for right hand draw from the drivers seat too.

Finally, just want to say that I appreciate the mods cleaning up the thread vs closing it.

Would this be able to be mounting between the driver and the center console (just opposite side)? If so, that would be ideal...especially when I carry at my 4:30/5.

EDIT: Looks like this one would work: http://www.nrastore.com/nrastore/ProductDetail.aspx?c=2817&p=SA+22672&ct=e

"Its ambidextrous design attaches easily on either side of the seat by sliding one end of the fastener through the seat and connecting on the other side."

Older thread, but I've been looking at options for this myself lately and saw no mention of the PUG mount: Home - http://pugoutdoors.com/ (also avail on AMZN). I just order, will let reply again when I've installed with some feedback. But it looks like the perfect solution for my needs. Simple, elegant, and effective. I basically wanted a semi-secure place to put my IWB holster when in the truck, especially for longer trips.

That PUG mount is basically just something to clip to right?

I don’t like having an open trigger on a handgun, it should be in a holster that covers the trigger guard. That’s one reason I don’t like the magnet mounts, the other being I don’t want to magnetize the gun and have it attract iron filings. At a minimum something like a raven concealment vanguard (which only covers the trigger guard) mounted on a lanyard so it pulls off when the gun is drawn.

another mounting option is the g-code RTI that the holster snaps into, but you would have to retrofit your holster to that system if you want to use it for hip and vehicle carry.

Yes, exactly: just a clip. Handgun remains in the same holster, just moves from my waist to the clip and back again. Not everyone's use case, certainly, but perfect for my use case. If I need more secure storage for longer periods in the vehicle, I have a locking glove box like everyone else.

I also like that it's small and unobtrusive when not in use, vs. the bulk of a full holster.

I bought this one at the local sportsmens warehouse for $10.00

It was designed to velcro inside a gun safe. I just removed the velcro and used gorilla double faced tape to install it.

So far I have had this in 2 cruisers for 3+ years with no problems. It has held anything from my big Ruger Vaquero .45 colt to my little S & W m&p .22 compact.

Dang this was 9yrs ago. I still remember this thread. Turned into a total sh1tshow with ant-gun nonsense. Lots of deleted posts. Good times.
I'd be surprsed if it didnt disolve to that again. I'll start -

I've been and will continue to be loudly critical of people who leave weapons in their car unattended. Its just stupid. I've been personally affected by gun violence where a stolen gun was used in a robbery where a friend was killed.

My dumb ass left my pistol in the console of my 80 overnight after my last trip. Totally forgot about it. Felt like an idiot. I like @leonard_nemoy 's solution.

Wow, so sorry for the loss of your friend. Yep, I "enjoyed" reading all of those old posts, lol... I could not agree with you more: never leave your weapon unattended. If we want to keep our rights, we have to exercise them responsibly. When I'm not in the vehicle, the weapon is on my person. I even advised my wife to avoid concealed carry purses. Way too easy to set the purse down somewhere and have it swiped, which is bad enough without a deadly weapon inside.

Early on in my concealed carry days (almost 10 years ago now), I left a Ruger LCR in the door panel of a RENTAL CAR from my local ERAC when returning from a business trip! Fortunately I lived 5 mins from the location, and immediately realized my error. Plus I rented there about every other week and knew all the employees. They were very cool about it, and being in Texas they were comfortable enough with firearms to retrieve it and keep in the store safe until I got there about 20 minutes later. But that's one of the biggest scares I've ever had. I've never made that mistake since.

Whenever the anti-gun (or even just the unfamiliar) crowd starts asking questions, this is how I bottom-line it: I want to avail myself of every means of protecting myself, my family, and my community. Period.

Yep, guns belong in the house, on the belt, slung over my back, or sitting next to me on a hillside. Sometimes when camping the cruiser is my home. That is when a handgun lives on my console. I like to have a handgun handy for quick shots at coyotes, cottontails, or any other critters I might want to slock on the side of the trail.

Last year I was able to pop this dog off the side of the road at 40 yards with my .45 colt.

First place someone looks when breaking into a vehicle is the console and glove box, happened to me a couple of months ago (vehicle at home in the driveway). They got nothing because I leave nothing in those locations of any value.
