Looking for ideas and/or pics of guns mounted to the console. I'm not looking for hidden and locked containers, simply looking for a way to attach a mount to the console for everyday driving in which I can holster and remove the gun quickly.

Here's a pic of what I'm visualizing. I carry a Glock 27 and this is a 5.11 Tactical paddle holster. I can't really find a good place for it. Anybody done something similar? What type of holster worked best? How did you attach it?

You can probably modify a holster to mount over the side of the cup holder in front of the shifter. Make sense? I dont have any pics, but I did something similar to that in one of my old trucks. It was in a perfect spot. Now I do like you have it in the pic, or in the slot next to it, but its nothing "secure", just lays there.

You might want to consider a gun safe that fits into the console. If someone can see the gun in your vehicle they might do the old smash and grab on you. If you mount it the open, you'll eventually leave it there by accident.

Consider the Ft.Knox safe (there are threads here on Mud, that is where I got the idea). I have it in my console and it works like a champ. Fits perfectly in the console. I can not only fit a handgun in there but also other valuables along with it.

This safe will significantly reduce the chance of an idiot kid stealing your gun and accidently shooting one of his friends with it.

That is the same place mine rides. I do not see a need for a permanent mount. It is there, accessible and rides well in all day wheeling situations

I mounted my G17 inside since it stays there all the time and has to be concealed. I used a Fobus paddle holster with the paddle removed by drilling the rivots and poly spacers from Home depot. The mag holder is also a modified Fobus.

I have a pouch in another vehicle that is part of the seat right in the front between my legs. Never really thought about putting the 27 anywhere else but in the big center console compartment. Now you got me thinking....

To the OP may I give you something to think about? Holstering and on holstering are in and of itself dangerous. I would suggest if you are carrying on your person and need want to take it off while driving you consider leaving it in its holster the entire time. So coming up with a way to secure your already holstered weapon would be my vote.

I have been carrying a concealed handgun for over 15 years now. At first I believed that it was best to remove it from my person and set it in the console. Over time i realized that with a different carry position and lots of training I could leave it on my person and still be well prepared. I think it is best for the CCW's to handle their weapon very little while out in public.

Good luck to you in finding what will work best for you

Edit: the ONLY person on this forum who has ever needed one, besides LEOs, was SNAKEEATER.

You mean to say that the only person that you know of, or recall reading about, or felt the need to make light of their personal experiences where they needed one was ....... Catch my drift?

To the OP, my suggestions are as follows:

If I were going to permanently mount a holster for my weapon, it would be further under the dash, and out of site from anyone outside the vehicle. I am assuming that you are not leaving the weapon in the vehicle but a thief seeing a holster permanently mounted would have reason to believe that there could still be a gun somewhere in your car. Also, the holster being totally inaccessible to a passenger would be a necessity for Washington State laws specifically, so I would suggest checking your own local laws for similar language. One useful idea that has been mentioned is that any holstering or un-holstering of a weapon is an opportunity for accidental discharge, so I favor the suggestion of keeping the weapon holstered, especially given that you carry a Glock where the only safety is the safe action trigger. Again, I am not telling you what to do, but definitely letting you know what I do, and will continue to do. Be safe out there.

When in the car, I like to remove it from my holster and keep it in the console so I can be comfortable while driving; it's not easy to carry a heavy Glock inside your waistband. When I get out of the car, I put it back in its holster.

x2.

I have a Spartan IWB holster with a Glock 30. I have driven hours on end carrying with this setup and have been quite comfortable. It is more difficult to access like this while seated however.

Everytime you remove a loaded firearm from the holtster, you risk a negligent discharge. Best to keep it in the holster whenever possible.

I carry my Glock 27 with a Crossbreed Supertuck holster. It's comfortable, but because I'm left-handed, the gun is wedged against the seat belt when in the car. That's why I like to remove it while driving.

I did find something useful in the 100-series thread; this holster made by Gum Creek. Anybody put this on an 80?

This is my center console setup. A magnet mount secured with two screws that tap into a scrap piece of wood wedged in the void below. It is not a model specific holster so I can carry different sidearms depending on the situation.

I don't use that particular model, but I do use a Uncle Mike's that's intended as a RH holster that the clip of the holster lays & locks to the door pocket of the LHD driver door map pocket & fits like a glove for any of the Sig 226, 229, Sig Pro (my general carry pieces) - that general frame size (just under a full frame 1911)

I am quicker & can keep it a upper torso shot RH, but a little more accurate LH - go figure. I just go Southpaw & watch the brass fling in front of my eyes most days, hence just doing the door thing over the console that would favor the "righties" for a ergonomic draw. Works great for us who go left most of the time.

@ the OP - what exactly are you trying to store size-wise & where do you want to store it - and do you shoot left or right? It matters if we are going to give an answer that really helps rather than just another goofy gun opinion thread.

We can keep this tech if you give us clearer details. Not trying to lay blame, just give us clear details & you'll get answers that really apply to you.

I keep my gun in my mid console.... like this it is also reachable for my four year old in case I am outside the car.

Thanks for the input. All that info you requested is in the very first post of this thread. Glock 27. Outside of the console, not in a locked and hidden security box.

I did fail to mention in the first post though that I'm a lefty :hillbilly:
