Ohhh Lawwd. This sounds fun. I pass a metric s*** ton of places that would have it. Let me know if this is a business deal or a hobby. I ain't stoppin for your hobby unless it pays.

Well it is for a hobby so don't go out of your way. But if I can get a good supply of "clean" stuff from somewhere consistently, like +/- 100 gallons a month, I'm sure I could work out a finder's fee. I am up in Memphis though so it would likely be more like every few months to make a trip to pick up a few hundred gallons. I'm just putting it out there to see what I can find.

Does used synthetic (Mobil 1) qualify?

It certainly does. How much of it?

Right now, maybe 10 gallons. I usually end up with several oil changes on-hand at any given time (not cause I want it, but because I procrastinate on hauling it to be disposed)......I'm guessing some of the other folks on here end up stockpiling it as well.

BTW: what use do you have for it?

That's kinda what I was guessing too. I may need to find a way to plant a storage tank down there for people to dump so I can make the trips worthwhile.

I make biodiesel with it.

I make biodiesel with it.

Well:
1) It's not "bio"diesel. It just comes from another form of crude.
2) How are you removing the metal particles from the engine oil? Because there's a metric s*** ton, parts per million.

@1) Very true sir. But people comprehend that much easier than saying "I turn it into diesel fuel"; I just get funny looks and a ton of questions when I say that. The response to "biodiesel" is typically along the lines of "oh, cool".

@2) Minimum of 3 weeks of settling time to remove "water" and large particulates. Then gravity feed through a primary 19 micron filter and a secondary 2 micron filter. Then it goes through another 30 micron water-separating filter while pumping into the truck tanks. Then the truck has a primary 25 and a secondary 10 before hitting the injection pump.

A very cheap "sock" filter that I used when running grease was an old pair of denim jeans. I would sew the bottoms of the legs then shove one leg inside the other and then shove the sock through a hole in a 55 gallon drum. Then you have the belt loops, most at least, to run a wire hanger through to hold it out of the drum.

What are you cutting it with? RUG, ATF?

Thought about saying something, but I went pretty much with the same logic as Steve - if you have to explain, people really don't wanna know.

Steve it making a product called W85. Google it. Involves adding gasoline back to the used waste oil (UWO).

I'm curious as to the results

In the meantime, I'll stockpile as much oil as I can :hillbilly:

Hmmm. Denim, especially doubled like that, would certainly filter quite well; I bet its slow as molasses in January, but not any worse than my 19/2 micron gravity feed.

Since you appear to know the terminology, maybe you already know what W85 is. That's what I'm making. 85% WMO cut with 15% RUG. Working out great so far. Just trying to set up a bigger operation.

Edit: posted at the same time as Jordan so some info recurring. Jordan - get back to your homework!

Thought you were going to bed?!!!

May consider bringing the operation inside if you have the room, Steve. That would make a big difference in how quickly it would flow. I'm sure you're already aware of that : >)

WMO is the term I was looking for. All I could think was UWO for some reason. My bad...

Put a tank here and we'll fill it. I can give you a few gallons a month for sure

I can manage getting a tank, but where would be a good central place? I think it'd be hard to find a good spot being that just taking the oil to a shop or an AutoZone would be a lot easier for most people. It may be a bad idea logistically but I'm open for suggestions to try to make it work. I think the oil I'd get from people dumping it in would be much "cleaner" than what I'd get from a shop's tank.

I've got a 250 gallon tank here at the shop. As of now its about 50% full. Saftey Clean has been emptying it about once a month. If you want it your more than welcome to come pick it up when its full. Also I dont mind if fellow Cottonlanders want to bring by what they have that way it will be in one location.

SCORE!! I couldn't ask for a better deal than that. Is your tank one of the white plastic tanks with the metal cage? If so, I may be able to just do a swap out if yours is accessible. I'd be interested in trying to get what you have right away if you're available - maybe this weekend? How far from Memphis are you?

Just install a tank in the parking lot of the Cherokee... I'm the idea man.
Now THAT is forward thinking!

Brandon, MS looks to be 3.5 hours. Gotta remember CottonLand is "centered" in Jackson, MS, Steve! But, you've found an awesome source!!! Rob's the man!

Thanks Jordan, I didn't even think to look at the location info. I knew it'd be far, but hoped maybe he was a bit north. In truth, being that central would be a good thing in the overall picture for everbody being able to get there to dump. That's a haul, but it might still be worth it. 1 or 2 tanks of gas in the little truck to gain a half tank in the big truck. That's like spending ~$100 to save ~$500. Besides, that amount, when combined with what I've already got processing, will likely get me right about where I want to be for my Christmas trips: two completely full tanks.
