What you need to do is get in touch with the hot rod guys in your area, they are a great resource for getting stuff made. :D Also as long as you don't need to wide Toyota has a Sahara Edition wheel that is 15x7, I have a set on my rig.

I would NOT go with 10" wheels. You get too wide of a footprint and it can rub like hell. I tried it.

I run 8" rockcrawlers and love em. Cheap and no bling! I usually egt them from Summit

They may or may not be illegal. That would depend on the local jurisdiction. In fact the DOT doesn't "approve" anything from what I can figure. The stamping of DOT on something means the manufacturer has the tracebility to show that the product met the federal motor vehicle standards at the time it was produced. However if you are trying to import something into the states it has to be "DOT approved". My knowledge of this comes from when I used to live overseas and had to have my vehicles gone over with a fine tooth comb to get back into the states. I actually had to sell my Samurai in Washington State, since if I took it with me, I would have to modify a lot of items before I re-imported it. That's why I bought my first cruiser, it was bone stock and old. Easy to re-import.

You can purchase rim shells with a DOT stamp. Then weld beadlocks and centers to them.

Instant DOT approval.

I have NEVER seen a single piece of actualy proof that beadlocks are illegal or that someone has actually gotten a tickett from them. If someone actually has proof I would be very happy if they shared it :)

i'll keep that in mind dave, thanks. I was kinda leaning to the 9". 8" just seams too narrow for 37"x12.5"s, but i don't know....

8 is perfect for 12.5's

I thought perfect is 9" the rule is from 4" betwen wheel and tire. when I bought my 10" I think, if I go with more big tires, usualy 13.5 or more, I can keep my 8" wheels . ?

I don't know. I am probably going to get either 12.5 or 14.5 inch wide tires. Therefore, I'm going to go with 10" wide rims, I think.....

Or would it still be better with 8" tires, even with 14.5 inch tires?

What about 14.5 inch wide tires, on 8" rims with beadlocks?

I am running 40x13.50 swampers on 16.5x8.25 rims.

I was running 14.50 sx's on 10" wide beadlocks and wish I had gone 8" (or 8.5 which is pretty common) wide.

dude ill go with 15x10 or 16x10 with those sizes; then again i like the deepdish look and the wider foot print asc. with wider wheels , but for all out offroading you probably better off with the 15x8's .....my2cents

Btw, if you have a narrower rim it is harder to pop a bead off if you do not have beadlocks.

the point of getting 8" wide wheels is so that your tire touches the rocks not your rim! Everyone I cruise with rides on 8" it doesn't matter if they are runnin 14.5 wide tires. Rims don't crawl rocks Rubber does. if your rim sticks out the side it will rub on everything. I'm no expert but that is my logic!

wingy - have any pics of your rig? putting on 1" over stock shacles and and add a leaf Mon. Dont know whether to go with 32s or 33s. (waiting until its not my dd and then SOA!!)

Thanks!
