If you have a DD keep the 80 clearly you bought it back for a reason and seeing as I just paid 15.5k for a heavily modded rig the value is there to the right buyer. U may A. find out its not as bad as it appears or B find a way to repair it and take that kid down the right path in life, a child in an 80 in the woods is an adult that will pass on those values to their offspring PRICELESS

I work in Fountain Valley nearly every day. Also have an auto stethoscope. Happy to help if needed. Just let me know.

Also, just so we're all clear, once we've determined this is something stupidly simple, like a loose manifold heat shield or something, we've all got to stick with the catastrophe story. I've seen this mistake before in a marriage. Once the truck is given a free bill of health, the wife's all about unload it while you can! If it's "broken," then you might as well drive it till it dies. ;)

Well, I'm back at square one. Just got back from Yotamasters. Super nice guys. They confirmed just with the naked ear that it is either a wrist pin or a piston or maybe a rod. Leaning towards wrist pin. I told them they didn't need to bother finding out which one it was since both would require pulling the engine and doing the rebuild.

They were encouraging though. Said the best thing to do might just be to add a bottle of lucasoil with every change and keep driving it while I save up my pennies. The noise did sound "light" to them and "doesn't sound like an, 'oh my god it's gunna blow!'" situation, but it is in the early stages and I do need to start planning for a rebuild.

Life is really wonderful and I know this is nothing to complain about in comparison to real problems, but to quote Nacho Libre, "it sucks to be me right now!"

I'll go over the options again with the sweetheart and we'll figure out what's best for us. I will keep everyone posted! I can't thank you enough for all the input and for those that were willing to help me out in person. Thanks!

Piston / piston pin noise will typically change or go away when you pull the plug wire for the cylinder with the bad piston / pin.
yeah he was saying with one it will get louder and with one it will go away. he was going to check and see which cylinder it was, but they were doing this all for free and I could tell they were very busy. I might check later just out of curiosity to see what happens.

none yet. The engine is currently being rebuilt. I was quoted 3 weeks so it should be back at the shop August 11th (give or take) and I'll bring the cruiser by for them to swap it in. Probably another week.

In the meantime, I've been driving it about 2 days a week. The noise is still there. I put about a bottle and a half of lucasoil in there and it seemed to have helped a little bit, but it's still there.

Thanks for checking!
