I looked at the new 200 today.

I don't see no friggin similarities in the sheetmetal or any of the design cues. Rav4 and Highlander, yes, LC and the rest, no resemblance.

?? I see a lot of similarities with the new Highlander. Front, side, rear... windshield, greenhouse, bodysides, tailgate, rr bumper... heck it looks like they are using the same rr view mirrors. As Spressomn said, Almost every manufacturer goes for 'family' stylistic trends- some people actually like that.

x2.

Heck, even CDan (and he's seen a few LC's come through his dealership in his time) said that the new LC looks like a larger, "big brother" Highlander.

Highlander look alike (to you guys) or not, its a LandCruiser and its going to have a warm welcome in the middle east.

Especially in Yemen, where LandCruiser isn't just a vehicle, its part of the culture. :)

Ugly. If they had put the upgrades into something that looked more like the 100 series, I'd be salivating. As is, and though I like the SEMA pics of the modified 200, I still say "ugly."

Looks like you won't buy one. Cool.

Why don't you ratchet down on the intensity a little? Am I not allowed to express my opinion on the new Land Cruiser? I have had in my family a FJ 55, two 80s and a 100 series. I think I am qualified to say what I want regardless of whether I intend on buying one or not. And I may purchase one anyway, despite their looks.

Don't pick a fight with me, pal. It's not my fault it's an ugly truck.

WHO CARES IF IT LOOKS LIKE A HIGHLANDER?

LOTS OF PEOPLE DO. THAT IS WHY PEOPLE KEEP SAYING "IT LOOKS LIKE A HIGHLANDER." LOTS OF PEOPLE WANT A TRUCK THAT IS UNIQUE, NOT THAT LOOKS LIKE AN ENTRY-LEVEL STATION WAGON. OKAY? APROPOS OF NOTHING, THEY MAKE DECAFFEINATED BEVERAGES THAT TASTE EVERY BIT AS GOOD AS THE REGULAR DRINKS NOW. YOU SHOULD TRY THEM OUT. YOU KNOW, TAKE THE EDGE OFF.

Thanks for the side by side photos - they help me notice the distictions. As a first time unexpected encounter with a 200 in a dealer lot with a minivan next to it, the distictions from the HL were not obvious to me. However, it did catch my eye as a seemly different - so I went to check it out and noticed the LC name on it. Once I was in it and walking around it, it was clearly a LC with different packaging. Functionally, I am impressed with it. Appearance-wise, I am lukewarm - not nearly as impressed as with the functionality aspect. I am thankful that the redesign was not more flagrant. The more I looked it over, the more it looked like a familiar LC.

WHO CARES IF IT LOOKS LIKE A HIGHLANDER?

I do, for one. If I plop down $70+K for any car, I want it to have some individualistic exterior design as well as be mechanically cutting edge. For fxxxs sake, if I want something that looks like a highlander, I'll get a highlander !! Haven't we been over this numerous times before ?? For someone to say "I don't care what it looks like, it is a land cruiser"....Either you are high or an absolute idiot !! So, what you are saying is that you have never bought a car based, even a tiny bit, on looks ??.....Fxxxing BULL**** !! :flipoff2:

I am making a MATURE decision...I am not discussing the subject if people THINK that it looks like a Highlander..then fine. I don't think it looks anything like one.

If that is all people keep complaining about....and that is all they can find...well I guess that is alright with me.

<SUBJECT CLOSED>

For someone to look at thoes pictures and say that they see no similarities is plain ludicrous..

And what next...The fjc DOES resemble ah FJ40 ??:lol:

Look, Like I said before if other want to think it looks like one thing...fine. But lets be fair here, just because someone does not think it is a carbon copy of a highlander does not mean they are an idiot....or high.

It just means that I don't think it looks like a highlander. Isn't that just good enough?

I think you are letting your frustration say things you don't really mean, if you think about it.

Oh, I'm just getting started !!

Not trying to be condescending, but how many Lc's have you owned?? I am on #6 right now. I speak for many multiple LC owners I'm sure... The LC is an iconic vehicle just like a 911 or a corvette. What I feel has happened with the 200 is that it has lost a great deal of its identity. By incorporating this "family" resemblance the LC is blending in, not standing out in the Toyota family. No matter what some people say, how a vehicle looks is very important in making up its identity. I am quite sure the 200 is as capable as ever. That is not what is stirring up these emotional opinions . The fact that the 200 is blending into obscurity is. The LC identity has been forged over the past 50 years all over the world.. The LC wagon should be held to a much higher standard than something like a highlander. When you see a LC you should know right off what it is. I'm not sure I can say that about the 200. This (and many others) is where Land Rover has the LC totally beaten. Land Rover has kept the RR true to its past. Whether you like it or not the RR is very identifiable where the 200 is "just" another Toyota. So, maybe this will clear up some of the confusion over why the 200 is being met with such disdain....

Ok look I think you are getting a little too worked up about this. What I am saying is this. It doesn't matter how many LC's I have owned. If this is my first or my 10th. The point I was trying to make is that calling someone an idiot because they don't agree with your OPINION is very closed minded, and in all of our previous discussions you made logical sense to your points.

That was all. I agree that a vehicle should have an identity. If you think someone betrayed you, it was toyota, not the owners of the 200 series LC.

Next thing I expect to hear is that nobody should buy a 200 series because it would be condoning the changes they made, which you don't agree with. An 'LC Buyers Strike' or something like that.

So if you would read this post twice before you respond, I think you will see my point.

It is not about the LC, it is about you calling new LC's owners 'idoits' just because they don't think the 200 series looks like what you think it does.
