I looked at the new 200 today.

Here is a very petty question but there is a reason for asking it..How is the sound system? I was/am really disappointed in the sound quality my 100 has. I was expecting much better sound, especially from a Japanese car....

I am the wrong person to ask. I had a $5k system in my acura, so I am not into factory systems at all.

Well to be objective let me say this.

It sounds very good. To me all trucks sound sort of hollow, but for me this is because the cabin is so large vs a regular sedan car.

For what it is, it sounds very good.

Hope that helps.

Once thing that does bug me is this.

The video does not play out of the front screen, even if in park.

Second if the kids or someone else is using is using the headphones and video in the back, then the only other option is the AUX jack. If you go and switch the audio to either AM or FM, then it will change what is viewing on the rear entertainment to the AM/FM also.

But since the DVD button on the radio is also AUX button, it allows you to use AUX input for output on the speakers while still showing the video. Since I use either my sirius radio or Ipod, it is not a big deal for me. But I still enjoy a few AM stations.

Very strange. Never seen one like that. My wifes 2007 Yukon does any speaker output and still allow the video to work and the audio out of the IR headphones. Plus when in park it puts the option for the video in the front Nav screen.

Maybe I have not figured it out yet how to do it, but I am usually quicker to pick things up then that!

Where is the DVD Player for the Rear entertainment located?..In

My 2003 100, the DVD player is located in a compartment in the

cargo side.it only plays DVDs on the Rear entertainment screen..If I

want to play a DVD in the Navigation screen, I have

to use the CD changer..The CD changer in the middle console (up

front) plays DVDs as well- and displays them in the nav screen when

the vehicle is parked.

From what I can tell here is the way it goes.

There is the DVD NAV disk unit in the passenger glove box.

The in dash 6 disk changes is DVD and regular CD.

If I have the unit in park the video (when played from the in dash changer) still does not show through the nav unit. Which I think is very interesting.

I have not touched the nav dvd player in the passenger glove box.

BTW there is not a changer in the middle console between the seats anymore. It is in the dash. The middle is either a regular glove box, or with the premium package is the cooler box.

Is it possible that a certain disc sleeve in the CD changer

plays the DVD? I don't know if you've owned a 100, but there

is only one sleeve (of the 6) in the changer that plays a DVD..Maybe

you know this, but worth a try.

All 6 slots play dvd's and cd's.

that was worth like $10K of the purchase price just to say that to a 100 series owner, wasn't it?:grinpimp:;)
LOL

If I remember correctly, in my old 02 LX470, if I wanted to watch DVDs in the nav unit, I had to put it in park and the emergency brake must be engaged. Try that.

I'll tell ya...if anybody here (including you know who ) thinks the 200 is going to be anything more than an urban cruiser you better change prescriptions ;). All the electronic and hydraulic gizmo's pretty much eliminate any consideration for exped type uses IMO...not to mention the whole IFS issues. My '99 is a handful enough keeping the front end together for my not so rough off-road driving. Christo's SAS is looking better all the time .

The mall crowd are the ones with all the money...and Toyota has figured that out a long time ago (starting with the '98 LC model ;)). Its mind boggling all the R&D that goes into rigs like the twundy to be aimed at the pavement crowd.

The 200 certainly has a place in the market...however its not the off-road market!

Well that was it! The emergency brake needed to be on!

Wow that was bugging me, thanks for that help!!

I don't knwo what to say to this. Obviously you know tons more then I do. I guess I am just a soccer mom and I didn't know it.

Because of your comments I am going to sell the LC at a loss, because the money is no object to me and go get a volvo TRUCK!

If you want to think that, great...have fun. Enjoy the information you have in your head already, because it is obvious that you cannot take in any more information.

Oh btw... :flipoff2:

Oh BTW if you are complaining about your 99 falling apart when you take it off road, then maybe you need to ask some advice from some more people on here, so you can learn how better to keep your truck together.

dtt255: Just ignore the negative comments from the "negativo/skeptical" section. You're hearing the same garbage I did when I built my 2001 back in 2001 from non-100 owners. Since, they all have been proved wrong by me and others as the 100-series can hang with almost anything when built properly.

Don't let these non-200 owners get you down. They salivate over what you have and they do not.....which is key.

Also.....regarding the 200 having ALL THESE NEW ELECTRONIC GADGETS that make it non-expo capable...........WAKE UP! The ONLY thing electronic they have added is the friggin' electric 4-lo/hi switch. All the rest is simply SOFTWARE. 4-crawl cruise, etc just use the same things that are already there (ABS, Cruise control, etc).

Damn! If everyone on this forum could afford a new 200 the negative posts would disappear!

Once you drive one and feel that power...you will be hooked! Trust me!

I have driven one. The motor did feel great, until I drove a Range Rover s/c . Actually, the power to weight ratio is probably quite similar. The RR s/c has the 5.7 beat on both hp and torque, but the RR is actually a bit more corpulent than the LC.

See, even I am changing my tune...Kinda sort of !!
I might be leaning towards the LC now since there is going to be some aftermarket products available for it (vs the RR).

Ok, had to look that one up. I have never driven a RR in my life so I cannot comment on it. I do know what you mean by the LC feeling larger. Then again, I am coming from an acura, so it feels much bigger!

I would think any truck with a SC would feel faster and beefier, whether it really was or not.

BTW I spoke to Mike over at 4 x Doctor in Burbank. He would be more then willing to do custom work on the new 200. The only thing he was hesitant on was the fuel tank. He was worried if anything should happen, and it being driven on the road vs only off road, who is going to be responsible.

That makes sense...I have a feeling I am going to run into that alot!

4xdoctor is a good shop! I've had stuff done there- a bunch of toyota guys have had their lockers and gears done there.
There was a great Cruiserhead mechanic there - drove a built FJ40- not sure if he still works there, but they are familiar w/ toyotas.

i honestly don't think you have to worry about gas at the moment. We've been all over Joshua Tree area (east mojave, anza borrego, nipton area) and gas was always within reach.

You are actually getting good mpgs in comparison so I suspect it is a non-issue for you at the moment.

IFS- the 100 is saddled w/ torsion bar IFS (the only real weakness in the design imo)
Toyota realized the err of their ways and have done coilover IFS ever since on their SUV's. I think the 200's is all-new so no one can comment on the durability except to extrapolate from the new Tundra and, to a lesser degree the FJCruiser and 4Runner.

ELECTRONICS- it does have more than prev. generations. Software IS electronics. There is more, hypothetically, to go wrong. Howver, the KDSS is all hydraulic and Toyota isn't German or British so I doubt there will be any major issue at all.
The Toyota guy made a point of saying that the LC is made with less electronics to be more durable than the LX570.

No rose colored glasses here...but I'm sure you'll be just fine with your new 200 where ever you plan to drive it ;)
