Speak for yourself Schotts. I would much rather spend $80K on importing a diesel 105 than spend that money on an expensive Highlander.

Beno.... got a question for you......

Do you normally take this long to:

GET OVER IT!

I can't believe how HIGH the prices keep going. For instance a 1992 Range Rover County was $32,000 and if you go to a dealer now, a Range Rover is $100,000.

Same thing with the Land Cruisers. The cost of a HOUSE for a 4 wheel drive... and it's STOCK without being built up.

This world is getting ridiculous.

Really, $80K for a 105 ??? Hmmmm...

You could probably get a used diesel 105 for about $20K and then spend the rest of that money getting it here and through the arcane/formal process of getting it titled and registered here in the States and conforming to all of the DOT regulations.

All said, $80K is probably a good guesstimate....

Get over what?

I was referring to Schotts' usually "poignant" socio-economic commentary...

But since you responded,

Have you scratched anything yet?

Milk & gas used to cost $.25/gal, and you could buy a Rolls Royce for $100,000. Lexus LS400 started as a $25K luxury sedan...

You must not live in CA, I don't think you could even buy a trailer home for $70K...
At 1996 dollars, a 80series retailed for about $57,000. In 2007 dollars, what is that, over $100K?

The average 3 bedroom house in southern cali, near the palm springs area, is about $400k.

Good ol google-

LC price (1996) $57,000.00
adj for inflation-in 2007= $75,492.08

so the LC was actually more expensive in 96 than 07.

People also make higher wages to combat the higher costs of living in California as well. The problem is that companies probably base their prices on cars/trucks/suv's on California wages!

For instance a friend of mine worked at Lockheed Martin in the silicon valley area making almost $200K/yr and moved to Texas and he makes $85K a year- Electrical Engineer.

I think you will find, if you work for a large company that this is not true... At least not to the extreme you are suggesting. As someone who works for a very large multinational corporation I can tell you that the change in my salary from Texas to San Jose, CA would be about 18% - which would not come anywhere NEAR covering the cost of living change. In fact I make more gross than many of my counter parts in California do - The fact that they stay and live there is a complete shock to me, but somehow they believe living in the bay area is worth paying the absurd cost of living...

so rather than buying a shanty crack house on a .14 acre city lot for 590k$ - I'll buy a 10 acre lot with a 4500 sq ft house and call it a day...

don't get me wrong, I love the Bay area, great place to visit and I would even live there if either the cost of living weren't atrocious or i made enough money there for it to be compensatorily equivelent.

and they say i'm the crazy one for staying in Texas...

I like it a lot, especially that green exterior. However for $73K I think it could deliver a LOT more. The wheels and tire selection are WHIMPY, as all stock vehicles are. Why oh why do Toyota and Rover do this sort of thing? Deliver off road vehicles with whimpy street tires and crap wheels?

because they offer the best ride, mpg's and capability for 99.9% of all owners.

besides, Toyota does offer the FJC with an optional BFG AT tire option so they do listen
