Out of pure curiosity how does this compare to @landtank / @NLXTACY better braking solution (other than think that was to still fit inside 16" rim)

How close are you to doing a test run to see if your master cylinder is up to the task?

Can’t really compare without an actual controlled test, but this is definitely not a purely bolt on solution like Joeys/Ricks kit will be. These rotors are larger 13.3” VS 12.65” (I think), but those are also Wilwood which many have some additional performance characteristics. Both good options.

I just need to finish up my Turbo swap and get the York compressor setup and then she will be back on the road. Most of the remaining turbo work is exhaust, intake and gauges....so probably a couple weeks unless I find more spare time.

How much wider are the 4runner calipers than the 80 series calipers? I am wondering about inner wheel clearance with the bigger calipers.

Why did you use 200 rotors instead of 4 Runner rotors? You mentioned they are same diameter.

Awesome thread! Thanks for sharing your research. Besides the big brakes, I really like the M14 upgrade. I have wondered what it would take to upgrade from M12 to M14.

What diameter did you drill the hubs out for the M14 studs?

I used 4runner rotors on my truck. They work well, but I thought this would be a better solution than the caliper adapter bracket I used. This is the best (IMO) solution for a slip-fit rotor and direct bolt-on calipers.

I used a 41/64" drill.

You can use either...multiple ways to get big brakes on an 80. Carl has 4Runner rotors on his with 80 calipers on a custom bracket. The 4Runner rotors are a 6 bolt pattern which simplifies that part, but they still bolt behind the rotor like the 80 rotors do... Having true slip fit rotors was really appealing to me for quick brake maintenance going forward....no need to remove the hub to change rotors.

If you have ever snapped wheel studs it’s a scary thing. The 100 series stud upgrade kills 2 birds with one stud, extra length and extra strength.

Cool project guys. I like it. Are we just assuming this doesn't work under 16" wheels? @mryanangel got any 16's you could try to test fit and see how far off it is?

Hey Matt,
I no longer have any 16" wheels, but I am 99% sure that you cant get these under a 16". @NLXTACY has a kit coming out that will work with 16" wheels.

I'll try to get some measurements later today.

I was just curious. You are probably right about this not working, I just like to see it tried before making assumptions. If that makes sense. What's the distance from the centerline of the hub to the outside of the caliper, if you don't mind?
And I know of his kit, I'm not really interested in such a marginal gain for such a hefty price. Your project is a much better upgrade and I have the equipment to do similar.

How much of a difference does it actually make?

I expect a significant amount, but won’t know until I test it. Currently working on multiple projects so it hasn’t left the garage yet.

Just Imagine how the 40 Guys with Drums all around Feel

I upgraded to EBC pads and it locks my tires up, but Mad Props for doing something new!
