Well, it's been 8 months since Scottydog bought my cruiser and I started driving a mere "car" while in lawschool.

School's going great, but I just can't stay out of the pool :D

Sunday, I picked up a locked LX450 with crappy paint and a front axle that hasn't ever been serviced in 164,000 miles.

It was cheap though and it does have lockers. So I'm back in the game (on a limited basis). Let the build begin!

oh, yeah. I'm going to need a couple more socal80s stickers! I can't remember who to contact.

You've got a pm regarding stickers. :D You obviously didn't notice the Stickers, Stickers, Stickers thread in the sticky section did you?

Welcome back to the addiction! :flipoff2:

hehe. Nope. Missed that one. I'm going to have to work on that reading comprehension before fall semester. :p

I'll have to get some close up pics of the paint. The hood and front fenders look like the PO tried to polish it with sand paper. You can't see it very well in these pics.

It's good to be back. I've already started the shopping list :D

This time I'm going to stick with 285s. I probably would have never sold the last rig if I hadn't gone that big.

Here you go Dave. It almost looks like he scuffed it to polish or repaint it. They don't go through the clearcoat.

Anyone have any ideas on removing them. I think there is something in the FAQ. I've used Mequires polish in the past so I'll probably just go that route. It's just a bunch of work.

I've used Zaino Bros swirl remover and it took just about all the pinstriping I've accumulated right off. Off course White trucks rock. :flipoff2:

I've sworn by all Zaino's products for 10 years now.

Where in socal are you? If you're anywhere close to Laguna Niguel you could drop by sometime this weekend and we could try a little to see if it'll take off those nasty swirls.

I'd start with a quick wash with Dawn to strip as much grease/grime as possible and then the swirl remover and then follow up with a clay bar. Zaino doesn't advocate constant usage of Dawn because it really strips everything off the truck, but a one time usage is fine to strip old wax and road grime. It's going to take some time and lots of elbow grease. Plan on an entire day IMHO. I spent about 6 hours the day I did the swirl/clay/2 step polish job with Zaino, but it's worth it. People looking at the finish on my truck can't believe it's 15 years old! Spend the time to get a good base down and you won't regret it!

Hell, give me $200 and I'll do all the above for you! I've got all the product to do it right. $250 and I'll do the leather seats with Leathertique too!

Thanks for the offer Brent. This weekend is out for me, but I'd love to get together at some point to swap Scoutmaster stories (Troop 842, Canyons District)

This weekend is my first school free weekend so the list of honeydo's is as long as my... well it's long. :D

I'm going to pick up some of the Zaino Bros. swirl remover and give it a shot, a section at a time. In fact, I may go the vinyl no glare, center section on the hood and just polish the rest. Does anyone still have a line on where to get the vinyl?

I've got some detailing to do to the car I'm selling before I can get to far into the cruiser anyway. :crybaby:

Welcome Back
And I think we have enough evidence just in our little SoCal group to give anyone a ration of $h!t when they say they are selling the Cruiser! :flipoff2:

Hey Todd... It's to hard to stay away.... Believe me I know... BTW, I've been taking good care of your first 80. My wife loves it, considering she didn't want me to pick up another truck to mod and work on all the time. Even with somewhat hi-miles it drives excellent, which goes to show the effort the PO put into it. My mechanic buddy at Lexus was quite surprised as well. He's really anal and made sure he flushed the radiator and put Toyota Red in it....(A good friend to have!) Anyway welcome back to the darkside. And hopefully we can get together sometime at one of the outings....

Scott

Thanks everyone! It's good to back in a Cruiser.

Hey Scott! I'm glad your family is still enjoying the old cruiser. It couldn't have gone to a better home.

I hope we can get something together before school starts up again.

Congratulations and welcome back. Paint is over rated. Just wash it twice a year, wether it needs it or not, and you are good to go. :grinpimp:

I am still enjoying the "old" Toyos too. :D
