So you have an old school headliner?
And you would like to remove it because perhaps your sunroof leaks?
Or you need to run a cable?
Make sure your hands are clean they say.
Its tedious but doable they say.

NO WAY I SAY! Is glued, its screwed, you need to take our your damn windows cause its wrapped and glued around it. My hands were super clean. I even brought some gloves but guess what? My hands got as dirty as working on the damn motor.

So I did what any normal person would do and beat the ever loving crap out of my headliner :flipoff2: Yeah, I think that headliner is dead now.

Rhino or Mosterline it and be done.

Or Dynamat and Velvet.

Is it noticeably louder?

It'll could work but you'll have some gaps on the pillars and you will need to weld a nut or too or use a rivnut where you are missing mounting points. Otherwise I don't see why not.
After mounting a slee bumper to the HDJ81 and having to make holes and weld nuts etc, I think I might just be able to handle this. Hopefully the headliner does not weigh 200lb :grinpimp:

Can you take a photo of the roof? I have been wanting to rip into mine to take care of a sunroof issue and rattle for a while but haven't bucked up for the swap.

Was thinking of doing that sitcky back beige carpet that people use to cover their subs n stuff with

I was really hoping that was a live action video of the removal
You mean the part where I stick the razor blade and slice the first slice? That video exists but it will have to be redacted and censored. Its a lot of cursing and and watching a normally sensible German lose his s***. The original intention is to take out the headliner intact. Then i discovered glue etc etc.

By the remnants on the ground I'm picturing a Tasmanian devil approach..

I will definitely be watching this thread because I'd like to do the same eventually, but getting a headliner without paying shipping will be hard in my area.

I'm still in the process of disassembling the 1994 that I rolled 14 months ago. I gutted the interior first and I must say that, for reasons still unknown to me, I thoroughly enjoyed slicing and ripping the headliner out. It was like I was about to discover something that the world has been waiting for.

I now know that if my 1993 headliner ever has to come out, I will be referring back to this thread because it won't be worth spit by the time I get it out.

Really interested to see how this ends. My '93 headliner is in remarkably good shape, but I dont dare touch it. Id like to add a cargo light and run some wiring underneath, but im too chicken.

The headliner I removed from my 94 was still very well attached and the material was still tough. It's like vinyl on the back side so it's not as fragile as you think.

Since you are starting fresh you've kind of got a clean slate. Here are some ideas you might like...
