@damienperu and @cruiserpilot:
thanks for the offers :) we'll send you a PM when we make it. We'll probably be on Vancouver Island in Sep. / Oct. We won't be in Peru until mid of 2017 :)

If you intend on coming through Ottawa or close by, let me know and our local club will give you at least an escort and some beer!

That will not be a h55, last used in 1998 models. Cruiserparts would have an r series.

My 06/1999 HZJ 75 RV has the H55F from factory. The HZJ 78 with R151box was only released in 07/1999. I am not sure about the boxes in the HZJ 75 vs HZJ 79 ser though.

Hi guys,

quick update: when the mechanic took out the transmission we realized how bad the the damage was. Broken bearing seat, multiple worn out bearings and a lot of metal abrasion all over the transmission and the transfer case.
We thought about the h55 too, but our mechanic said it is a lot oft work, and maybe us versions differ from european ones.
So we went for a rebuilt, improved R151 and transfer case. We got a good price in germany. Should arrive beginning oft next week.
We keeps you posted.

Thanks for active feedback and input!
Daniel

h55 can be used, but the gearbox cross member has to be modified into c-shaped since it is shorter

They are on a long road trip in a foreign country. Doing gearbox swaps is not going to be fun. The rebuilt R151F will get you there if treated kindly.

Hi everyone,

after two amazing weeks with a rental car in Newfoundland and some further small delays our rebuilt transmission and transfer case from Germany finally arrived yesterday and the mechanic put them in our Land Cruiser today. We got a new clutch too, since it was all taken apart anyway.

So we are on the road again!! :)

Thank you very much for your feedback, support and tips.

Cheers
Steffi & Daniel

We're gonna be in Quebec tomorrow and probably Montreal on the 20th.
So we might already go through Ottawa on the 21st / 22nd. We gonna push a little bit, because we really want see Alaska before it gets too cold.

You have lots of time until too cold in Alaska, but you do want to be there by early Sept for sure.
