Here you go:

Remove the engine cover and open up the harness near where the #1 coil wire comes out. Tap into the black/yellow wire. I would take a photo for you, except that it is now under the cover. :D

Wiring a relay is pretty straightforward:

Quick question, @LandCruiserPhil: is it normal for the fan to have this whine / noise?

Hard to tell by the video but not to worry it's guaranteed. I can tell i have tried over the years to kill one and no luck do far. My fan has run dusk to dawn many days:eek:With almost 100 fans sold there has not been a failure. Keep me posted we have your back.

Any tips on making the hole for the switch? How did you guys do it? What size hole? Did you end up gluing the new switch to the old plate?

I used a hole punch, 1 inch, then used a file to widen the sides a little bit. No need for glue, it clips right in.

Bought the hole punch set off Amazon for about $37, in an orange case.

This is the one I got:

The switch cover plastic is pretty thick, so it took a while to get through, but you end up with a nice round hole.

The hole punch in the linked set could definitely use some sharpening and it would cut through the plastic much quicker.

Fan noise sounds about right. On my 80 series it is every bit that loud (and pitch) on my LX not nearly so much, so yours sounds like it falls about in the middle.

Just run it. You should have no problems.

Just got back from 2 weeks in the southern Utah desert. Your fan was a lifesaver. Thank you!

Planning on getting more?
