That is interesting. Some where I have the information when Toyota added defrost duct to the windshield. It was a couple years before the complete factory installed heater started during 1964. The Nippon Denso heater are rare in the US. Toyota made a deal for a US manufacturer for a kit to install a heater. 65 models had factory heater as an option. 66 on later a heater was installed on all US imported Land Cruisers.
Sorry. I made a mistake there is defrost.....i checked ....but a part is missing. Kind of deflector

I questioned your point in my head.. My 63’ FJ45 has those narrower than later model defrosters with the 2”/?cm tube to slot adaptors and smaller deflectors. But came with the dealer installed cube under dash heater and no defrost tubes so none functioning. I could not remember if my long gone 1962 FJ40 (early w/ slide up door windows and side shifter 3 sp trany) had the windshield defrost vents, tho it also came with the box dealer heater (I think I have one of them in storage). .. It sure got me trying to remember if my 62’ had the defrost outlets! I THINK I remember being very happy the 63’ DID have them. So I do think some may have shipped with slots but no hardware for defroster's .

I converted the 63’ to a 67’ Toyota heater but kept the fan in the cab (flipped w/ motor down attached directly to heater box- fake oem). Defroster tubes still need work, have elbows I bought years ago but now their split. Defroster are overrated! 😂

I'm on my 3rd set of defroster hoses in 44 years. The last ones I saturated with ArmorAll at install about 15 years ago. The 90 degree elbows at the heater box mostly dry rotted, the vent end just split. This spring I bought two 2" pvc 90's elbows from home despot. Used heat gun to soften one side of the 90 to fit the heater by pressing it on a mandrel first. Used duct tape to seal the hose in the other end of the 90. I didn't worry about the split in the top of the hose fitting connecting to the vents.

Seems there are 2 vent ducts inside the windshield. Like thoses, but don’t have them

Yup! Those are what I installed on mine to add the defrost. Maybe @65swb45 has some on hand? You will also need the little diverters that bolt to the top of them so the hot air is aimed at the windshield.

If someone have. I could be interested...problem i will have to change the cowl because on 68 the vent is present and holes under the windshield are smaller than 64.. so maybe i could make a modification to keep the best of the 2 systems...but i would like to have somes pictures of the original 64 cowl and vents....etc...

The clamshells I have found had some home baked looking mounts. Let me see if I have any on hand for a picture. They were super basic looking and mounted off the two large studs on the back of the unit.
