If your clunking is caused by failed bushings, it will be obvious. Sometimes they are just gone.

I've got a knock that I can feel in the steering wheel and only when I turn left. The steering wheel can be at any position and as soon as I turn it left there's a hard knock that hits the steering wheel. I've tested it with the knuckles detached from the steering linkage. It only seems to be happening when the tires are on the ground and the system is fully connected. Is it possible that the power steering box is causing it? I don't see any slop in my new tie rod ends.
