This may have been covered before so flame away.
I haven't personally seen more than one other Pig on the road in many years and that one was at a Landcruiser show three years ago.
So how many are there out cruising the roads and off-roads of North America? Here in Canada we lose these things to rust pretty quick and they don't seem to fair much better in some parts of the U.S.
Anyone ever heard any numbers of survivors here or even world wide?

Not enough I'd say. I saw somewhere on the site that there were 113,000 or so produced. I can count on my left hand how many there are in Hawaii. I know that doesn't exactly answer your question, but it's a starting out point I guess.

the web opens things up,, i woulda swore before the internet i was one of 2 or 3 in the whole state, but there are at least 16 of us in AZ and ive seen pics of other AZ pigs. i'd guess a good 25-30 in this sate.

I'd be a little surprised if there is much more than 15,000 - 20,000 left worldwide. I know when I restored my truck it took two to make one and many piggy owners have a parts rig that will never again be roadworthy.

There are a few here in Guatemala but not as many as previously apparently. They were used as taxis years ago.

15-20K? That's an intriguing number and makes us all feel special. As mentioned, they seem to be aplenty out west (CO, AZ, etc)--Seems like OZ would be an easy place to nail down a total but you wonder how many owners have never heard of Mud and how many are registered on Pirate that we don't know of.

Howdy! Worldwwide? Probably a lot higher that the US Import numbers. I remember seeing lots of them in videos of international news, especially the Iraq War. There were bunches of them running around, white with a red front door. I have been told that means they are a taxi. John

Naw Cruiser Guy--I really was being serious if our beloved pork count is that low. I was astounded that I found one here in my area--I used to own a 76 and sold it (like a dumb @ss) back in the 90's in a town called La Grange*, GA) and that was a miracle too in finding one around. This is one of those interesting questions that I wonder if we can ever really figure out.

*let the ZZ Top jokes begin

have only seen another besides mine on the road in AL/GA/MS last 6-7 years; a burgundy solid colored with a roof rack on the AL/MS state line on hwy 82 had lot of Guam diving stickers on it and think it was a 72..............just don't see them out there anymore :(

I'm from B.C. and we've had 'Cruisers for as long as my kids can remember. I bought the BJ60 in '89 and we actually looked at a rusty '55 when we were looking. The rusty '55 did not cut it as a family vehicle. When my daughter was in 11th grade she wanted to get an SUV. I looked around on the web and found an FJ55 free for the taking in North Dakota in 2002 (supposedly it had a rebuilt engine). She and a couple of friends took our '84 BJ60 and a tow bar and picked it up. It was the first FJ55 I had seen in years. She didn't even know such a Land Cruiser existed.

Here in Guatemala I've seen a couple of them but not many (there is one a few blocks from us that the guy uses for off road trips). I really doubt there are many road worthy '55's out there.

The number I picked out of the air was about 10,000.15-20,000 is probably more realistic.I read on here some time back that total production was around 130,000(?).Even in good climates these things have problem areas prone to rust - major rust. There are lots of parts Pigs or unfinished projects but few complete resto's.Of course the lack of aftermarket parts and prices of unobtainium drives more people away from spending time and money on these.
Most of us are keeping our 55's alive for years to come cuz they're so unique and functional.Probably because we too are unique unlike the other human cattle out there driving their Hummers and Heeps.
Anyhow,I just thought I'd throw it out there to see if anyone had any idea.

Thanks for the info K9Crazy--now if we could get some numbers from South Georgia we could get a better idea of how many in the land of peaches.

BTW--your baby just seems to be getting cuter...hope all is well!
