I purchased my 2002 LX 470 a couple of months ago. I absolutely LOVE it. Easily my favorite car I have ever owned. I am curious as to the rust situation from people who know the 100 series a lot more than I do. Give it to me straight yall.

Not bad if you were in the Midwest. Overall, to someone like me from the Midwest, that’s not bad. Others will say kill it with fire, but to us Northerners, not bad at all. That said, if your tank looks like that, inspect your lines. They may be as bad if not worse. Same with Brake lines. Out of curiosity, how many miles and how much did you pay? Those two questions will sometimes make things better or worse.

looks pretty normal for Ohio, i would expect it to look better in NC. The fuel tank skid is a simple replacement that in itself isn't' a big deal but i can see one spot where it's rusted thought the body. check brake lines, fuel tank straps for safety sake. may want to do something to prevent your rear diff cover from rusting though.

That's "shield" around the gas tank is very common to look awful with rust. I see some areas that aren't great, but nothing super awful, like holes in the frame. Looks like you might have a critter issue too.

I would sure pull that gas tank cover (not necessarily the tank), check the tank for rust, treat it, and buy a new shield. Then rustproof the heck out of the frame with a grease-type product (not a tar-based or hardening compound).

Thank you all for the responses. This was 220k miles with a super nice maintenance history on the engine. I had the timing belt replaced and a mechanic look over the engine, and also replaced the radiator. paid 7000 for it, put 2000 in it (not including new tires and wheels).

Previous owner lived in Maryland and moved here recently from what I was told

Structurally? No issues I can see. Technically - and by that I mean, technicians working on your truck - buckle up. You're likely going to get hit with rusty, broken, stripped hardware fines - 30 min. jobs that take two hours because of rusty hardware and fittings.

Not advisising buy or not, but I had some rust on m 2000 LX470, nothing like this, but Corroseal is amazing. I sand it, prime it twice with Corroseal and rust never comes back.
