So you want them about 3/4" wider on each side..

On the Full Length ones, The only possible issue with that is about 6" back from the front of the hood on those edges there is going to be extra material. It may make for a tricky install, especially for a novice, but Ill make them however you guys want!

In your drawing back up above, the blackout follows the lines in the hood--more trapezoidal-- but these (photoshops I'm assuming) don't look like they really do that. It's throwin me all off. I don't like either one of the shorter ones... What about a ~40" one? Any way to do that? I may have to get the long one and then just cut it to my own length... Hmmm.

Yes they are photo chops, i just did them go give a general idea of how they would look, The Camera angle messes it all up.. My Suggestion, is to go out to your rig, Put a tape measure on it at 33" and toss down a line of tape, then sit back and look at it, Let me know if they should be a different size!

Yes they will be a trapezoidal shape, like in the cad drawings!

I do want to make you guys happy, and make a good looking design, but it may be hard to make everyone happy :)

Exactly as it looks in post #35 would be totally fine with me. It looks great there and I see no reason to deviate from it for the full length one.

Bump. How we lookin? I've just blacked out my wheels and I'm blacking my fender flares and I'd love to have this hood blackout to go along with it all. Oh, and I keep flip floppin, but I am officially down for the 2/3ish one.

What about this same type of material to do a black side stripe down the body?--In the spot where the factory non-US (I think maybe some 40ths got it...) side trim went? Lemme find a pic... I don't care for the factory side trim stuff, but I'd throw down some of this stuff for sure...

Just to get this on the post, I don't see anywhere stating the type and thickness of material you are using. Seems an issue with some of the materials is that it can possibly fade over a short time. Plus what is the proper technique for prepping and applying the material?

Thanks!

I've been wondering about proper application as well...

As to type and thickness etc, it was stated in post #53 that it is 8 year stuff.

Can't comment on the thickness... But for the vinyl applications I've done at sign shops and really good cleaner stripper should be used on the paint. Something that will remove any wax from the surface, alcohol or wax remover. For the application a spray bottle of soapy water and a squeegee. Make sure the squeegee won't scratch the vinyl, don't use a credit card to squeegee something this large. Lots of soapy water on the hood, even more on the sticker. Lay the vinyl on the hood, a cool hood helps to give you more time to move the sticker to where you want it. Once in place just hold it in place and squeegee out the water and air, working from the inside out.

That’s about it, once that hood heats up, it's on.

The Material Is 3M Cast Vinyl, 2 Mil, (Designed for large vehicle wraps).. The 2 Mil is easier to conform to curves, and is thin enough that you barley will see the edge.. This is the good stuff, we could have gone with some cheaper material, but id rather not have any issues..

I am by no means an Expert at Installing large graphics, i will be putting on the first test one tomorrow. and taking some photos for a little application guide. you can find Many online sources that have all kinds of ideas on how to install them properly. The Basics is you want to ensure that the vinyl is in the proper place, then tape it down, Tear off the backing on one side of the hood, and use application fluid, set the vinyl down and use a good (new) squeegee too push out the bubbles.. then peal the backing from the other side and do the same.. a Heat Gun may help and if you have any bubbles, you can put a small hole in the vinyl to work them out. It sounds easy, but can be tricky. any window tint place could put it right for you!

Blackouts are done! I Test Fit one on Tiller's LX450, they Fit Perfect !!

you will need to remove your windsheild squirter's and cut a small hole..

Im Trying to convince Uncle Ben to Come down so we can install one on his truck, and i can make an install guide. (Tiller's Gold Stock LX would not look good with one IMHO)

I will be shipping off the Blackouts that are paid ASAP! :) Thanks Guys!

And for the other 7 people that wanted them, They are ready to go!, Available on the Website - Crawlorado.com

until i can make my own application guide ill try and find some Guides and you tube videos that may help with the install process.

I'm curious if anyone has any pics or personally seen how the blacked-out hood bulge looks on the Red 80's.

Pics anyone?
