Thanks, I actually got the link for this thread from Fred's thread. My brother is a mechanic and I am trying to get him to agree to help me put in the Saginaw pump with pics from here. He is telling me to just buy the Toyota pump rebuilt or new; hasn't priced it yet, but new, I get the feeling that will be an issue. On a rebuilt one, I am sure he will say that guys on a forum saying they suck is not evidence enough to install a Saginaw. My opinion is that people here have more experience with Landcruisers and can be trusted.

Make a deal with him. If the rebuilt Toyota does fail, he pays for all the parts and labor when you have to swap to the saginaw. As I recall I had to grind out part of the factory bracket. I made the little piece you see in Freds40's thread. I ended up using the Toyota pully and re drilled it for the Volvo hub. In fact when you go to the wrecking yard all you need is the hub. Use the toyota pump for a core.

Edit: Keep in mind Fred and I are running big rubber so we maxed out the stock pump, stock tires may let the pump last a little longer

I've got 33 X 12.50s. I need to get some pics of my truck up here. I want to get an estimated value from some guys who have owned and worked on a few anyway. I paid 9-10k for an '86 FJ60 but it has 120k to 135k miles, OME suspension, winch, brush guard. Not much rust, only significant on the frame that I can tell, but I haven't taken it all apart to look deeply.

I'll talk to the owner to see if he gets more pictures.

my write up, hope it helps add to the fray. I didn't have a welding option or 'shop stuff' and ground/cut the 80's volvo 240 bracket from the saginaw pump to make an adapter to fit the Toyota bracket. Also did some grinding on the toyota bracket to make thing align correctly. Toyota hoses fit fine. After install my steering box seals blew (in like 10 minutes of driving)... Also did some 'custom shaping' on the radiator fan to clear the bolts on the pulley. Auto transmission cooler hoses from Napa were used for the return lines (low pressure), make sure things don't get too close to the exhaust manifold too...

Not saying you should do what I did, but it is still working well after some medium wheeling that flexed things pretty much all the way.

PS RayN nice clean job!

Sorry I'm reviving an old one. Just finished my Saginaw conversion. Definitely worth the effort. My new steering is like butter. Best mod yet, and I did it all for about $50 with a pump from the local picknpull. Got it off an 84 Volvo 240. High pressure line threaded in no problem.

What did you do for the bracket?

This is the bracket I had for mine...

Pulley must be spaced toward front ~.5 inch. I used nuts.

Fitting is perfect. Volvo pump..

The fitting in the bottom of the pump where the pressure line threads in can be removed and installed on most if not all Saginaws. If you need a new pump in the future, keep that part and put it in the replacement pump so it will accept the inverted flare Toyota hose.

Thanks! So, in the top shot, it looks like the bracket is a straight bolt in? The only mod is to adjust the pulley forward? The back of the pump looks like it has two new bolts/plugs. What are those all about?

Complete Saginaw Replacement Kit

RayN, great stuff and thanks for sharing. Does anyone know if there is anyone that sells the entire assembly with modified bracket, pulley, etc. My original pump is a mess and hoping to just purchase everything already modified and ready to bolt on.

IIRC, manafre sold that at one time. When i did my conversion, it wasn't worth the cost. I did my whole coversion for about $50. I think the stuff from manafre was like $300-400 all in

I put a pump in my 2F last year and LOVED it. Spent time grinding and adjusting the old bracket. THEN lost the engine (see thread in my signature).

Now the pump bracket is in my parts pile. The pump is going on the SBC install, so I don't need the 2F brackets. Not actually ready to bolt on.

@RayN any way you can fix the pics? Any long term update? Thanks in advance.
