Yep, he now has, in his words, a Pre-Runner 100 series Land Cruiser. He grenaded the front diff, so he pulled the drive flanges and driveshaft from the front axle, duct-taped the hubs :hillbilly: and drove the rest of the trail in 2wd. He even took an optional obstacle in the creek. :whoops:

Great fun, thanks everyone and Alvin. :D

I had a lot of fun on this trip. Thanks to everybody for helping me out of there and minimizing the damage to my truck. You guys are a great group with a lot of knowledge of Land Cruisers....

I have some short videos of people actually making it up the step that I will post up soon...

I had a great time on this trip and I want to thank everyone for getting my new Taco through the rough spots.

I have a GPS trackpoint file of the trip if anyone wants it.

Steve

Ha! I know you're just kidding because you were there.
I was trying to get Chris out of there though other things kept him going. I finally walked away when he got backed into the tree because you can't have two leaders/spotters working against one another. It was shortly after my exit that the front exploded.

Chris's truck will be back with a vengeance. Once the front ARB goes in, Chris goes up and without any concerns of more carnage. HANG IN THERE CHRIS!

Better that happened in Tucson rather than Moab, Colorado, etc...2wd isn't all that bad and doing burnouts in a Land Cruiser is awesome...

Relax John, it was vehicle failure not spotter or driver error. :hhmm::clap:

Big  to Mr Baggins for setting up another great New Years run, I had a blast!

Didn't shoot as many pix as usual, too busy having a good time. Some playing in the water fun;

Big thanks to everyone who helped with the spotting, advice and watching out for my :princess: bodywork on my first attempt at the step. I was glad to make it without a scratch and get that obstacle off of the must drive list!:D No one got a pic of it?

 to Steve for breaking in the new Taco correctly! I don't know if I could take a new showroom stock truck on that aggressive of a trail, maybe after the first payment was made!

Chris popped the front diff on his step assault.:o It's a known weak point on the 100, but I was surprised at how easy it went. By my observation the wheels weren't bound in the rock, he wasn't using too much throttle or wheel hopping, just the front wheels trying to pull the truck up. The new ARB setup should result in a more durable setup.

A bunch of tools were loaned/offered and backs went to work making the rig mobile again. Chris and Spike worked together very well in getting the wounded rig out. Strapping was needed several times on the way to the gap, after that gravity helped out, the down hill side went much smoother and we were aired up by ~7PM. Stopped for some good mexican grub and headed back to PHX.

His  new Red Green approved dust caps!:hillbilly:

This was my first time running the Gap with the 37"s, very happy with their performance. On the play bump at the end of the trail, I could get on to it at the steepest spot and climb it unlocked!:bounce::steer:

Woke up to birf soup on the right front, the regear to 529's has moved up the list, so that I can run them bad boys full time.:D
