Nice work Larry.

If I get to my clutch before the end of the month I'll be doing the Boreal Royal run. Maybe we can meet there.

I seem to remember a u-joint union mounted in the front cross frame : below rad drivers side, I could be wrong cause it was a long time ago ???
this may account for the 5- 6 inches you are saying you are short.
Can anyone chime in with pics ?
ps. love the topless look !

I think you are referring to this pillow block that gets bolted under the rad.

I have that installed and the long shaft that I have should reach from there to the PTO gear box on the transfer.

Can't say that I will be attending T-Bar in Fort Mac this August long or not. Got some other stuff in the works and having starter issues as well.

I just took off my starter and when I did it was full of crap, so you may want to check yours out too. I bench tested mine and it is pooched. Not sure yet if it's because it was submerged in mud for so long or if I got something else going on.

Long time, no update!

Well it's time to get the 45 out of hibernation. This spring is much better than last year and I have been able to persuade the princess out of the garage already.

I stated to work on my PRO winch and thought I had found a solution to my short shaft issue (insert jokes here). One day it just came to me that all I had to do was create a bolt-on spacer with flanges on each end. I had a pinioin flange from something and it turns out that it was about half the length I needed. It was 2.25" and I needed to make up 5" so I decided I would get another one and weld them together and create my spacer. The result is below.

You might notice that it is not fully welded. Well, that's because I wanted to test it first before I got past the point of no return.

It turns out I'm screwed!

This is what happened when I tried to test fit it all.

My PTO shaft hits the exhaust. So I think that is the end of putting the winch on my truck. Now before anyone tells me just to cut the exhaust and re-route it: That ain't gonna happen.

So, I am very disappointed to say the least. I guess the only option now is to get another cruiser I am willing to hack up and mount the winch on it.

The other goals this summer are to finally change out my rear springs and shackles and to work on my half doors. I should be able to get that done if I don't have a major breakdown like last year.

I sandblasted my donor doors last year at our little sandblasting event ad now I'm just trying to figure out the best shape to cut them in and the best way to cap off the top once I do cut them.

"Best way to cut them "
Grinder and a "zip" cutting disc .
It seems it would be easier and cheaper to heat and bend the exhaust to accommodate the pto drive shaft than buy another cruiser ! Not that there is anything wrong with buying more Cruisers !
Another thought is go to a smaller diameter drive shaft for the pto, I think mine is 3/4 or 1" !
Can anyone else chime in on the pto driveshaft diameter ?

Maybe it looks larger in the picture, but the PTO shaft is only about an inch in diameter. It's just that the exhaust gets in the way of lining it up from the winch head to PTO box.

Love the truck, wish I had found one in this good a shape!

Cool build, subscribed!

That's a 77 45 with a stock exhaust system, right? What does the book show for a 77's PTO shaft set up, one lone shaft or multiple.
