Can anyone confirm the transmission "clock" angle for an HJ61 manual transmission bell housing? I'm measuring 5.2 degrees clockwise/ towards the passenger side. Im going from the top two bolts that hold the bell housing to the block as the "base" angle, and then the top two bolts that hold the transmission to the bell housing and comparing the difference.

thanks.

Out of interest, are you trying to solve a specific problem or fabricate a mount to suit or something?

If its any use at all, I have these images of the late and early 2H Bell Housings:

I'm working on a plan to alter the crossmember in my FJ45 that currently is flat. I'm putting a 12HT in place of a 2F, but using an HJ61 bell housing.

Gotcha.. you probably already know this, but getting access to HJ47 engine mounts and a trans cross member would be a much easier conversion.. but I do appreciate those parts not easy to come by in the US.

Fun project, best wishes for it!

Definitely. I see one for sale on cruiser Utes and spares, but I'm looking at probably $1,000 with shipping to get the bell housing and associated parts. Plus given the shift pattern, the tilt of the shifter away from my leg will be a welcome improvement!

It’s definitely 5*. I got my motor and trans in and the original crossmember will work, but I think it will eat rubber trans mounts long term.

Fascinating photos, thanks.

I think that rubber mount will be eaten in the very short term. Also I always thought the transmission was clocked to the left side of the vehicle to give the transfer vacuum switch assembly more room, but this in fact appears to show the opposite - the transmission is clocked to the right?

Clocking on 2F-3F and 3B cast to 3B/13bt aluminum drop the t case for drive-line angle improvement. Got rid of the double carden even with longer front drive-line with H55. so Right/clockwise clock looking back to front.

It definitely clocked towards the passenger side. I think my plan is to make new L brackets to mount to the frame to compensate for the angle.

Here are some more photos.

Here’s another interesting discovery- currently the front driveshaft flange on the t case won’t even spin all the way around as it sits!

This has been an interesting exercise, thanks for the additional photos. It just confirms my belief that 2H mounting components from late to early just don't play well together.. Engine Mounts Brackets, Engine Mounts, Bell Housing, Transmission Cross Member, and Transmission Mount all need to be matched unless you're willing to fabricate a new cross member.

Would it be OK if I used your photos in my collection of 2H mount information please?

Also, I think your transmission cross member is already broken:

absolutely use whatever photos ive posted up. I'm happy to take more if there's something specific.

That mount has definitely torn loose from the metal. If I had to doit again, I'd grab the hj47 bell housing so this would be abit smoother process. I've got a newer flat bottom rubber isolator and so I'm moving to that and pretty much no choice but to fab a custom crossmember at this point.

Thanks for permission to use those photos!

Best wishes for the cross member fabrication, I hope it goes smoothly. Very keen to follow your progress and outcome on it.
