Hi All,
I have just found this forum after asking Mr Google about glow plug probs.

I have a HJ47 which is giving grief in the cold start dept. After reading through several threads on here I am thinking of converting to a Wilson Switch and running dual element 11v plugs. I tried to chase up a new timing unit or earlier plug controller only to find out they are no longer on the Toyota system.

It would seem that NGK Y744M or Y532J or Bosch GPT217 or 220 are the go. Has anyone used any of these in such a setup?

I have had my truck since 2000 & put a tipping body on it when I first bought it. Best thing I ever did. I had a low mileage white ex electricity authority 47 before this one but never bit the bullet for a tipper. This time it was easier as the current truck had a crappy Ali tray with damaged sides. I owned the white one for about 10 years and it never missed a beat. Before that I had a FJ45 for about 5 years. It also was a great truck but was too thirsty.

Attached are a couple of pics of my truck from 2009 when I installed a second hand 2H engine with turbo, after my better half seized the engine. I also put in a 5 speed box from a HJ60.

Having just looked at these pics again I realize I need to tidy up the truck, it's starting to look a little too well used!

Cheers,

nice truck buddy, i've got a 47 too. Welcome to Mud! its by far and away the best resource available for these old girls. your truck looks a lot nicer than mine, that tray looks the goods.
what year is she mate? has to be 83 or 84. does it have the super glow system? looks like it to me.

Thanks for the compliment Indestructible. I should take a current pic, she's not looking quite as good now - trouble with everyday useage eh?

Its a 09/84 build and does have the superglow - soon to be replaced.

There certainly is a wealth of info on Mud
Cheers
