As far as the valve cover goes....(thanks for asking, by the way) I had seen a 2F motor somewhere on Mud....and the block was black...and the valve cover was a gloss white...think that would look really sharp. I think the '2F' logo was left brushed aluminum...was going to try to replicate that, but I'm always up for suggestions! Merbesfield- Hope you're feeling better with the back pain stuff! We need you back up-n-running!

Well, its been a very, very frustrating weekend on the LV! Saturday morning, I started working replacing the pilot bearing, so I could hopefully get the tranny back in. It took a good bit of wailing on it, but the old one finally broke loose from the crank. I cleaned up the crank, and tapped the new bearing in its place.

I got the flywheel cleaned up and installed, and cleaned up the pressure plate. Both are in great condition, so they're not getting replaced. I do have a new clutch disc thats going to get installed. Here comes the set back....

When I got the bell housing hot-tanked a few weeks ago...I left the clutch fork pivot bolt installed...well it didn't come home with the bellhousing!! To make matters worse, I can't find my clutch alignment tool either! I'll be looking for both the alignment tool and pivot before I can continue.

Here's a lousy pic of the new clutch and flywheel. More pics as I actually get some progress made

More Saturday morning projects...I decided to knock out another garage project before I got to the LV. I decided to re-wire my garage lights. Took about 2.5 hours, but got the plugs installed upstairs into the rafters, and the new lights installed. They put out much more light than before! I'm pleased with it. Now I just need to finish up the drywall and insulation...then I'll be set!

Thanks for thinking of me Jeff. Unfortunately, I think I am headed towards the operating room bc "this is the big one" as they say. I am screwed, I can barely sit, much less try to work on a truck. :frown: Problem is all the docs are so dammed busy and could really give a sh$%^&t about me, so it is hard to get straight answers from them. One doc could not even see me until Feb. 28th :flipoff2: so it is not going to be a quick fix. :crybaby: It is very frustrating having to read about other crusier resto's and not being able to do crap.

Sunday morning, I decided to get some work done on the gas tank, since I can't do the clutch yet. When I sent it out for sand blasting, there were a few small objects rolling around inside, and I didn't think anything of it. The sandblaster taped up the holes, and thats how its been sitting for the past 1.5 months! I took the tape off, and tried to get the 'objects' out with a long pliers, an extendo-magnet, and the damn things are aluminum!! Couldn't get the crap out by shaking. (shook the tank for 15 mins tring to free them up)

After much debate, I thought to myself "Hey, I can cut the filler tube, reach in with a pliers, and grab the crap, whatever it is, then weld it back up." Well, the first part of the plan worked just right! Here are some pics of what came out of there. If you have any idea what they are...I'd love to know!

Now that I've got the debris out of the tank it was time to weld it back up! Easier said than done!! Little did I know that the 41 year old gas tank metal wouldn't take to spot welding! Burned right thru it!!!...even on the Lincoln's lowest setting! So, here I am...5 hours later, having to get the fill tube re-built by getting it brazed on! Another day lost...having made little progress. Very Very frustrating! Here's a few pics of the damage. I think I'll just cut it off, and then re-build it with some heavier gauge steel tube. I'll have more on that this week.

I had alot of random stuff in my tank aswell, like a Lock Core, and other bits and pieces.. Not sure what id do with that filler like that! looks like your making progress, Let me know if you ever need a hand

Isotel- thanks for the help offer...You bet, I'll take you up on it! You've done an awesome job on your 40, and I'll always have a ice-cold Guinness, or Bud, and maybe even some brats for anyone who would want to lend a hand!

I called around to a few welding shops today, and got a pretty good response. I've been advised to check out a radiator repair shop. They do some silver-soldering/welding..and that would repair and beef-up the filler neck. PLUS, they can pressure test it for me to locate anymore leaks. I'll have more on the results from the radiator shop tomorrow.

I got the gas tank back from the radiator shop yesterday. I haven't even had a chance to take a picture of it. Work has been killing me! Hopefully, I'll post up some news later.

CCjeff, tell us what the radiator shop did and how much it cost? My tank def. needs some work. The gas that came out of it was about the worst smelling stuff you could imagine. Overall my tank does not appear to be rusted thru, but it needs a through cleaning and what ever is best to treat the inside surface of a gas tank for reliable future service? I have no idea, never done it before. Keep up the good work. All I can do at this point is watch every one else do the work. :(

Merbes- The radiator shop chopped off the weaked filler tube, and removed it from the tank itself. Then they used a larger diameter round tube as a collar. They then placed it around the filler neck, and silver-soldered it together. They then installed the neck onto the gas tank wall, and soldered that on as well. They pressure tested it, and it's getting primered and painted this weekend, damnit! Sheesh, it's only been what? 2 weeks since I was able to get anything done! My wife is getting a little bit hot about the garage looking like crap! The "non-LV" side of the garage (a.k.a. Wife's parking spot) is needing to be returned to it's rightful owner soon! :)

WHOOHOO! It's Friday!

I did, however, make some progress last night. I installed the clutch, and pressure plate. I had to run around like a mad-man today to find a throw-out bearing! I found one for 25$, from Federal-Mogul Bearing, and I'll be pressing that in this evening. I know I could've got it from MAF or SOR, but I'd still have to pay shipping...same cost in the end. I'm hoping to get the trans/x-fer back in tonite....but I'll post pics of what I ACTUALLY get done!

Anyone have a gasket set for a 2F? I'm needing a waterpump, the 2 thermostat housings gaskets and a fuelpump gasket for the reassembly later this weekend. The guy at Checker/and Autozone looked at me like I had bugs crawling out of my ears when I asked him for them!

have you tried your toyota dealer for the parts that is where I get all my engine related parts for my 2f and 3FE engines. I just don''t trust the quality of anything but toyota.i just bought a throw out bear for my 87' 2f for 22.00 at my local dealership. they ofcourse did not have it in stock but like always they haad it the next day. for larger orders that i know I don't need iurgently I order from either cruiser Dan or John Hocker so I can get the discount. you end up paying less and get OEM parts.

You should not beat your self up about your pace. You are flying compared to me and most others here. At this point with my back I am lucky to be able to sit at the computer and read about your resto. I have a shop full of LV parts, a half finished paint booth and an LV carouse attached to a rotisserie. Very depressing to say the least. :( I do know what you mean about the wifes parking spot. That is one thing that is definitely off limits. Luckily I have shop space behind my office.

FJ6202840- I knew someone would mention the famous "CruiserDan" :) The dealer here was a few days out aswell. I totally understand the "Toyota-only" parts thing, and it is without question a better part in most cases!

Merbes- Dude, your back is killing me! I hate to hear about another Cruiser-guy/gal out of the running. What kind of surgery are you undergoing? I'm no stranger to back issues, and have gone thru just about every back treatment possible! You're not alone there at all! Hope you're doing better with every day!!

BTW....Absolutely nothing done except find the infamous 'Missing Clutch Pivot Bolt" I had [lost] mine, Pappy came thru for me by mailing one to me....and tonite while cleaning out my Tacoma....THERE IT WAS!! DAMNIT! :)

Thanks anyways Pappy!

Well, its been a few weeks since an update...I've been busy with the little piddly things on the LV. With the help of my wife, I got the trans/x-fer back installed 2 weeks ago. Just this past weekend, we got the water pump and thermostat housing installed. Here's a few pics. Today, I'll be painting the gas tank. More on that later.

forgot the pics :)

I cleaned up the 2 dizzys that I have. I'm planning on using the newer model, but I can't identify the years that this distributor applies to. Anyone have a clue as to this distributor's vintage??

Also, I'm gonna be looking for a new intake and exhaust manifold, as I was disassembling them I noticed a really good crack on the base of the intake...typical of this age manifold...from what I've heard. I need to decide as to what carb setup I'll be using. I like the performance of the Weber 38/38 DGAS, works really really well with the DUI dizzy and MAF 6-1 Headers. Any imput from you guys????
