We're interested!

Well, instead of posting progress, I'll send a link to you all who care :)
Check out my www.photobucket.com link. There is about 30 or so pics showing what I'm up against rust-wise. Think this weekend, I'll cut the rear sections out, and go buy some sheet metal. Woohoo, "Let the cutting begin!"

Enjoy!

We're interested, that's why we're here!

That link got mangled by 'mud or something & it doesn't work for me.

Please update!

Thanks,
Chaz

Well I figured I'd post some progress, unfortunately there isn't any progress on the LV :( I have been working on my 02' Tacoma's tailgate. My dad actually high-hooked our flatbed trailer on our move date, and backed the truck right into the trailer's tounge. Well, $xxxx.00 in insurance repair, I decided to do the work myself. I've got it painted and installed, just need to finish the wet-sanding and buffing.

I'll post up some pics on here soon.

wow i'm impressed! awesome thread man, keep the progress up. sorry to hear about your taco, if it makes you feel any better i have a 2nd job, as a night manager for Pizza Hut and my BRAND NEW 4 month old FJc has already got a non-trail-induced dent in the front fender and a nice rub burn on the back bumper from idiots that either work or eat there. :( of course nothing bad enough to merit insurance invilvemnt so it jsut stays like that for now. anyway, i'm jealous of you, i'd love to find a 40 or a 45 to resto, but i have niether the time nor the money, so i'll just live vicariously through your work so please keep it up!

74FJ40, thanks for the offer! I'll gladly take you up on that! I'm off of Quebec and Lincoln, not too far from ya!

Tex, Thanks for the compliments! I used to deliver for Pizza Hut a while ago. Yeah, door dings are a regular thing around Denver! With the Tacoma, I've had a heck of a time getting the clearcoat to clear up after wet sanding. I knocked it down with 1500-2000 grit, now its just a matter of buffing it out! :)

I've never had anyone live vicariously through my LandCruiser progress, but hey, if you want to, I have no objection! :)

Well, I figured I'd post progress....even though its not on the LV - I don't want you to think I'm a slacker!

Here are a few shots of the Tacoma tailgate damage. (2 months ago my dad backed up to my flatbed trailer just a little bit too fast!) The wifey got me a new paint gun for Dads-Day, so I put it to good use. Enjoy!

Yeah, I'm hijacking my own thread here. Honestly, I haven't been slacking on the 'projects' department! I've also been rebuilding the motor for our Yamaha Wave Jammer. Used to be a 500cc, bored it out to 555cc with new Wiseco pistons....hopefully I'll have it in the boat by Thursday and on the water on Saturday.

I finally got it through my thick skull that my wife REALLY hates all of my unfinished projects. I think it's the little things that bug her. Heck, this motor has been sitting in 2, 5-gallon Home Depot Homer buckets for the past 4 years! How scary is that? :) So, I've been productive this week and got the motor finished.

Any ideas on a paint scheme for the WaveJammer? Its been sitting outside for 4 years while the motor got the inside treatment, so it is gonna get painted in the booth this summer too!! YEAH!

CCJ, unfinished projects are what keep us young, I think. My wife sounds just like yours. She thinks all my stuff is crap, etc. But I must say the she does not say no too often, not that I really ask her too often. When I do ask it usually means that I already know the answer, if you know what I mean. I am really impressed with your mechanical skills, I have never done that kind of stuff before. Keep up the good work and send me those pics. ;)

ps where is CO do you live?

MILESTONE POST!!!!! Okay....Okay....not really, but anyways....I figured my 200th post should be in my own buildup thread! Bout time I'm not a Jr. Kinda selfish aren't I? :)

Well, not much progress on the LV....oh, yeah and the boat motor....total piece of junk! Its the first thing I've ever built that wont run! DAMN THE 2-STROKE motors! I'll have to do some carb work on it, and see why it won't run-up! Starts and Idles like brand new...the second you give it the gas, it dies! ARUGH!

Anyways, I've got a weekend comming up (just like everyone else I guess) so, maybe I'll make some progress on the LV.

Anyone need to sell/loan out a sheet metal brake? I hate having to out-source stuff I can do myself. I'll post up some progress as it happens!

Well, this weekend I was finally able to put work aside for a moment and work on the LV. I spend Friday cutting and bending up a new rocker panel for the passenger side. I've got the exterior skin replaced, and I need to work on finishing up the underside. With the considerable amount of rot under there, it's certainly going to need to be replaced. On Saturday, I went to work on the rear door sill, as I was getting bored with the rockers :)

I've removed as much of the old sheet metal as possible, without totally extracting everything in the back-end. I've decided to fabricate a "scab-plate" to go over the existing door supports, rather than removing the existing main support (which is really quite solid) I think this will just beef-up the rear end and give it added support for the door sill. Here's a few pics of this weekends progress:

And some more :)

And lastly:

Here's a few pics of the 'scab-plate' that I mentioned in a post or 2 ago. This will be welded in addition to the existing rear support plate. The existing rear support is quite strong, and I can't justify removing it entirely and replacing it with equal gauge metal. The last thing I want to do is 'cheapen' or lessen the value of the build, as I'm trying to do a very high quality job here. I think the strong way to reinforce the existing metal is to support it with new stock. Please let me know if you have a more efficient/better idea with this one.

Here's a better photo-description of my plans, as I don't have MSPaint or another photo editing tool to do the 'football drawings' on them :)

The rear doorsill will be much longer on the bottom (as this is just a mock-up) and will attach with an overlap and spot weld to the replacement plate just forward of the existing plate. Damn, I've got to get the football drawing software! :)

Ok Ok Ok.....I'll post an update!

I was on the 4th page of the forum here....damn thats pathetic! I can't say I've been slacking either!

I have been working on the 74' FJ40....doing a monster cleanup on the 'borrowed' Tub (thanks Abe!) Which I still owe on....and getting the new body panels welded up on that one.

As far as the LV goes....its on hold until I can sell a car....a 2003 Mercedes CLK55 AMG....any takers?

I've run out of $$ and need to sell the car in order to finish up some of the Crusier stuff and pay back Gr8ful Abe for the FJ40 tub! :)

I'll post up some pics of the LV in the garage just so you guys don't think I'm wasting your FJ45 time.....

Laters,
Jeff
