Steve - PM'd ya back-

Well, finally today I got some hard-core progress made. I got the gas tank, radiator shroud and support, engine, x-fer case and trans, bellhousing, and some linkage back from the sandblaster today! Sure do wish I could sandblast the big stuff myself, but I just don't have the room and my wife dosen't have the tolerance for the mess it would make! :) Here are a few pics from today. Hopefully I can crank up the heat in the garage, and get 'em painted this weekend. My wife and I are working at church for our Christmas production, so time on the LV is getting few and far between. I'm hoping to have the drivetrain installed here by next week. Enjoy!

I'm going to be cleaning up the valve cover and re-using it. I can't figure a way to use the F valve cover without major mods to it. It's lacking the oil filler hole, and thats kinda crucial. I may just paint it with the PPG industrial gloss black and sell it ?? Who knows.

Root, you can still have dibs on the PTO output. I'm sure we can trade it for something, since I found the cover I need stashed away in the thousands of part in storage.

:bounce:

what is really funny is Ige came by the other day and donated a box with about seven side covers to my yard :D

I know it's been forever, but I've finally made some real progress on the LV. I took on a part time job, so the LV has had some "alone" time. As you may know, if you read the thread, the frame and axles were sandblasted 2 weeks ago. After a lot of waiting, I got them back from the blaster. It looked fantastic! I finished the prep-work on both the axles and frame, then off to the paint booth! I painted them with a PPG heavy industrial paint. It shot quite well out of my HVLP gun, much to my suprise. Here are a few photos:

Next up, I got the chassis back together, I just need to get the axles torqued down. Hopefully this week I can get some more things to the sand-blaster. I'm finding that it takes WAY too long to do even the small things inside my lil' blast cabinet, and I should just send out everything, that way its a done deal!.

I'm also working on my rotisserie. I've got the sides all welded up, and should be putting the body on it this week. By the way, does anyone know the dimensions from the back door of the LV to the very front of the body? (where the aprons butt-end to the body? ie.. the longest part of the body itself, past the firewall? The reason I'm asking is, that mine is BURIED in about 2' of snow, and I can't get to it to take the measurement.

Frame looks great!!!

If the rest of the truck turns out this well.......

You will have a FINE ride.....

I really can't wait to see the "Final Product"

Please keep the pics coming!!!

1? are you concerned about sand in the engine, xfer, and axles from the blaster?

Ditto that concern....

Sand and debris in the vital parts was my primary concern, prior to blasting. When the engine, xfer, tranny, and axles went to get 'shot', all the seals and open areas were sealed and taped up. I used our Dyson vacuum while I removed the tape, so not even the smallest amount of dust/debris from the tape, (or the sand that stuck to it) would get into vital components.

Its 11 degrees F outside today, so I didn't get anything done as far as to the painting of the engine. I'm having to look for a garage heater, because its just bitter working in the shop with just a few space heaters. More on that later, though.

Yesterday I painted the motor, bellhousing, trans and x-fer case, along with a bunch of little pieces that were sandblasted a few weeks ago. Hopefully I'll get some glamour photos for you guys later tonite!

I'll have a few days off for Christmas, (and all of my shopping is done!) so, I'll be able to make some headway on the LV this weekend. Once I get the drivetrain back in, I'll put the chassis aside for a few weeks, and get some sheetmetal work done on the body.

Check back later for more updates.

Finally got the camera batteries charged :)

Gawk. Those are too nice to go in a cruiser. Great work. How long did it take you to degrease these bad boys.

I'm starting my 45 project soon. Your thread is inspiring and scary at the same time. Looks great!

Inspiring and scary at the same time eh? WOW! Thanks, I guess :) The drivetrain was fairly clean when I had them media-blasted. I used a 2-part epoxy primer on the drivetrain, to keep them from 'sweating'. I'm hoping to get the clutch re-installed tonite, and get it all reassembled. Thinking I may get it set in the frame this weekend. I'll post more updates here shortly. Thanks!

Well, its Thursday the 11th....FINALLY get 3 hours to work on the LV. With my work schedule, I've had no time in the past 2 weeks to work on it. SO, here is the update:

I got the u-bolts installed on the axles (I can't find the last nut for one of the front bolts...anyone have an spare??). The shocks are still a little bit short, I'm guessing thats due to the fact that there isn't any weight on the frame. I got the front engine mount bolts in, I'm going to have to recall how the rear mount cushions go...but I'll get to that tomorrow. I decided to install the wheels, just for the hell of it. They were taking up way too much room along the side of the house, and the frame just needed them I guess. Plus, it helps having the frame up at ride-height for the engine and drivetrain install.

Plan for tomorrow includes finishing up the rear engine mounts, then installing a new pilot bearing, and then assembling the clutch mech. I couldn't get the clutch and pressure plate in with the enging swinging around from the hoist. I'm hoping to get the tranny installed by late tomorrow night. More to come on that later!
