A low battery destroyed a seat control module?!

Did you attempt to jump start it or anything?
Yes destroyed, no jump start. Truck was running battery was low, I drove it to the store to buy a new battery as it still ran. On my way to the shop my seat coolers started to randomly turn on even though they were off! Put new battery in and everything was fine except for the heater/cooler module was dead.

They aren't fused. I went through the debug diag for the entire thing and ended up at computer. Brought it to the dealer same result they replaced computer, no issues since (4 years).

I assume they checked the starter?

Well thought I would give an update here. My 2011 has been in the shop for 3mos. They have put in 17k worth of parts and still can’t get it to start. I am going there tomorrow to get an itemized list of parts replaced. In need of some help here so if anyone has any ideas I am all ears. I am looking for some kind of land cruiser master technician. Does anyone know of such a person.

They did. They replaced the starter. I will post the list of goodies that have gone in so far. Seems like my insurance is going to total it. Such a bummer the cruiser is in pristine condition other than it won’t start.

A dead cruiser makes me sad. However hearing that your auto insurance is stepping up to manage this makes me happy. I hope you were not too soured on this bad experience that you wouldn't consider a new cruiser. Also I now know I would NEVER buy a flood salvage vehicle thinking I was getting a deal by trying to fix it myself!

Good luck to you.

Yeah. I’m torn. This has been a brutal experience. If I didn’t have insurance involved I would be in tears. I loved that truck for the first 5 drives. As soon as it didn’t start i was shocked. I had searched for months to find a rig with helpful advice from this amazing forum. The one I found I vetted heavily. There was no way to know the windshield had been leaking to the mainframe. Which in my opinion is a terrible design that allowed this to actually happen. The fact that these parts are so expensive to replace/repair is another deterrent.

Upon having the local Toyota service call me and say we found the problem and it is going to be in the tens of thousands I was terrified.

I still don’t have a resolution yet. I would probably never buy one without a warranty or cpo after this experience.

There was a car in the Club Lexus forums (an ISF) that had a similar problem, they finally tracked it down to some ground fuse/wire that ran under the battery tray through the firewall and into the ECU the that been worn through by vibration of the battery tray. It took months to figure out and lots of money spent on replacing things that were not broken. Then there is the issue with the dash wiring harness in ALL the early Lexus ISx50 cars where the harness is a little short and eventually pulls it's self out of the back of the molex plugs. A new harness and install is $X,XXX's Poor engineering and outrageous labor rates, in my opinion.

I will definitely think twice about who installs my windshield if ever needed. Even going so far as to share this thread with my insurance carrier if they resist to having factory glass put in by a dealer installer.

What an awful experience and what a mess. I sure hope the resolution helps this end quickly. I know it's no consolation, but this will be one for the history books of the 200 series. It's so rare to have a cruiser down for so long and with such extreme costs for R&R. Sheesh.

Yeah it seems like somewhat of an anomaly. The hardest part will be telling my wife I want to buy another one... I am still hoping they will come up with something magic but I know I will have a hard time ever trusting this thing if I do get it back.

The PO of my LX, my brother-in-law, noticed the windshield was leaking while he owned it and had it replaced a couple months before I bought it. I believe he said that the indication was that the carpet felt wet after it rained.

So where did it leak from? Anyway others after having a windshield replaced would be able to determine if there is was leaking or not
Leaked from the bottom of the passenger side windshield. Turns out there are a lot of electronics there

I don’t think there is a way to tell without installing a moisture sensor behind the carpet in the floor

I'm honestly surprised that a water leak falls under a comp insurance claim. Good to know.

Im a little confused. So the windshield was replaced by the previous owner? And it then started leaking and has now totalled the car? Do you know who that installer was?

Correct. The windshield was replaced by a local shop under ownership of the PO.

Well its definitely their fault. How long ago was it done? I guess you notified them that this happened? What was their response? This should not change your opinion of the TLC or make you insist on a CPO or warranty for next purchase, it has nothing to do with the TLC design. Simply a case of a bad installer. Sorry this happened, really stinks. Would be even worse if your insurance company jacks your rates up through no fault of yours. The windshield installer should be paying for it.

I don't know, folks ... that sure looks like flood damage to me.

Just sayin' :ninja:

It seems odd that a car that spent its life in AZ would have any kind of moisture/leaking damage from the windshield. They do have the monsoon season, but in general it's the desert, not much rain, and assuming an owner of an LC would have it garaged. There have been a few really severe flash floods in AZ the last couple of years, cars under water, could be the case with this one. From now on, if I'm looking at a 200, I'll be checking every fuse box and under dash.

Yes no doubt. It seems incredibly odd. I would definitely pull the glove box and check the connectors/fuse boxes etc. of any other used 200 I were to buy.

BTW cruiser was totaled today....
