Either way, hopefully the next one is better. Thanks to Shawn and family. They have given my entire family a place to stay, a vehicle to drive, and a garage and help for the swap. It's truly remarkable.

Another amazing mud story!

So, I took the valve cover and oil pan off, and have attached some pics. The valves are coated with what appears to be mud. The oil filler is coated, and it has about 30 miles on the oil change. In short, the motor is toast. I've put less than 10,000 miles on the truck since purchase, and it's been about 25,000 miles since over $5k was spent at ACC Toyota.

That "mud" could well be the result of a slow coolant leak into your oil system. Same thing happened to Lurch last year, in Utah no less. See pictures in this post: https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/what-happened-to-my-5vz-fe.735077/#post-8527000. Not a 1FZJ though. He rebuilt his engine only to have the problem re-occur, so a real nightmare caused by a bad head casting -- very unusual.

Time to get a new motor.

If this was a chronic problem...

I would think one would notice this when changing the oil. At least some of that stuff would be "plopping" out of the oil drain. Or even blocking the oil drain and impeding flow.

Also, I would hazard a guess that you'd be able to tell something wasn't right just by looking at the oil level every gas fill up. You tend to "get to know" the rate of discoloration of the oil in between oil changes.

While maybe not pertinent, this is an interesting read (if an oil flush was done to the engine):

I went and looked at some of my pics from my teardown. I had a really hammered to s*** rod bearing and journal, and rod. The bearing halves had apparently been chasing each other around the crank, sometimes doubled up. This would make the piston barely smack the head, sometimes. Other times, it sounded like a metalpecker (like a woodpecker, I'd guess?) inside the engine, just hammering away. Kind of a Ratatat-tat-tat.
Anyway, here's what my pan and sump pickup looked like when I pulled the pan. Hmmm, maybe my PO actually did change the oil?

Jonathan didn't note coolant loss. I've seen the results of a slow internal coolant leak. This looks/feels different. But who knows... maybe.

^^^ This is exactly what I think has happened, only instead of an intentional flush it was caused by the first-time use of the moly oil in combination with prolonged heat...
