Just went into limp mode this morning. Checked the code, P2442. 149k on the odometer, 08 LX. It stays in the driveway each night and we have had a ton of rain lately due to the hurricane. Not really wanting to spend $3500 on it. I’m going to be ready to clear the code and see how the next few weeks go.
A warning about the bypass kits (from a former first gen tundra owner).
I got this secondary air system code in my '06 tundra at about 100K, local mechanic said he had seen a lot of them on the 4.7l and it would be 3-4K to properly fix. Recommended a bypass kit total install was a couple hundred bucks. I went with that and everything was fine until the winter.
Every time the temperature dropped below 40 degrees or so, the truck would throw the code again and go into limp mode. Mechanic looked into it and the maker of the bypass kit claimed it was a known issue and they had no fix (yet). Mech gave me a scanner to clear the code every time it came up, but that became a real PITA.
I eventually traded the truck. Wish I still had that truck and just spent the money to fix it.... Anyone considering a bypass kit may want to verify that there are no known issues like that. I don't recall the brand of the kit.

Thank you, I believe the Hewitt-tech 2nd gen solves that problem, but I could be wrong. That was the impression that I got by searching a few different threads on this topic.

This is correct. If you go the cheaper eBay route, you'll have this problem. The Hewitt team is aware of that issue and have integrated that fix into their units. I had the same issue on a cheaper kit and returned it for a full refund. Been running the Hewitt kit for about 2 years now. Zero issues.
Just FYI, I installed the Gen2 Hewitt-tech for a P2440 code, and so far so good. Truck was throwing a code after every start-up. Kit seems well made and was pretty easy to install. I was done in under 90 minutes and that includes block off plates. The passenger side plug was the hardest part, but that took me maybe 10 minutes with moving some wiring harness around.
a follow up. After installing the gen 2 kits on each bank, (one was replaced and hewitt did free of charge) I continued to have codes. unfortunately after a few weeks of tech and wiring review work, ohming and reverse testing etc, 2k in labor, I finally gave up and registered my truck where it wont be a problem. I live with the code. bought a scan gauge and clear it. at end of day, the code will annoy me forever.
