Hi all,
I’m converting my FJ40 2F engine to use a Saginaw power steering pump and running into two issues:

1. Alternator relocation
The PS pump blocks the driver-side alternator spot. I want to move the alternator to the passenger side. Does anyone know an OEM or reliable bracket to do this? Any tips on clearance or wiring?

2. Air cleaner
With the PS pump, the stock oil-bath air cleaner doesn’t fit. I want a good after-market air cleaner that:

  • Works mechanically with my new OEM carb
  • Uses OEM-style hoses for PCV/infinity plug
  • Fits well without interfering with PS lines or alternator
Pics of my setup:

  • 2F engine in FJ40, LHD, PS pump bracket installed
  • Space where alternator used to be (driver‐side) now blocked by PS pump bracket
  • Limited space on passenger side for alternator / housing
  • Original air cleaner housing driver‐side can’t fit with PS pump lines / bracket in place
I’d appreciate any help, part numbers, photos of your installs, links to brackets/air cleaners that worked for you. Thanks in advance!

Lot of room under brake/clutch master, I'd mount the big air filter housing down there. Have the inlet horn behind the vents and make a like 3'' hose duct up to the carb. I have seen outside on the fender mounted air cleaners.

I mounted my ps pump (chevy ham can style) from a home made mount that comes off the set of bolt holes on the block at the oil pan rail. This cleared oem air filter without issue. Used the part numbered 011 (F engine) in the first SOR link above as a base. Cut off ears and drilled and tapped remaining base (part is heavy made cast iron) to attach some new fabricated steel adapter bits that mated to chevy pump.

Alternator is mounted up high on passenger side using stock mounts from one of the engines I went though getting this rig together. Have had F135, F145, and now 2F engines in and honestly dont remember origin of each bit. But was all factory landcruiser. Edit to add: SOR diagrams show this as standard 2F. Not sure will fit F, but I bet it would.

No longer factory air filter (went efi). But can see pump and alternator locations in pic:

Regular ol' stock OEM 2F alternator bracket fits right there and I love the adjuster on it, one or two vendors here on 'Mud sell them
