welcome to mud great looking cruiser you picked the right year don't let those 1fz guys tell you its too slow or it doesn't have front or rear lockers, it has the bulletproof 3fe you won't ever have to worry when your head gasket is going to go (and they all go eventually on the 1fz, so get in to the slow lane enjoy the ride and listen to your new sewing machine

I have to second Sea Bass's response....you will never regret buying "the best year" 80 ever produced! Gas 'er up.....change the oil...... and drive! (To the next gas station!) oh, and don't mind the mopeds passing you!
As far as your original post, I just re-did my exhaust a couple weeks ago, and ran for a couple days with no o2 sensors (until I could re-weld bungs in), and 1) it did set off the CEL, and 2) it runs much smoother with o2's in it! Fuel mileage was still the same whopping 10mpg though! Good luck and ENJOY!

Changing out the HG on the 1fz isn't that hard and by doing it, you set yourself up for a chance to rebuild or replace everything but the lower end. If you don't mind doing this three times, Toyota engineered the 1fz to be rebuilt every 300,000 miles for a total of 900,000 miles. The 3FE is a fine motor, but let's not get too carried away when it comes to ripping the more powerful motor a new one for being unreliable. If anything, get mad at Uncle Sam for mandating that auto companies stop using asbestos for anything, which led to numerous otherwise very well designed motors popping head gaskets like it was New Years Eve.

That said, I do love the '91-'92 paint schemes. I would love to see the cedarwood color on the wheels. I want to use that color on my all beige '94 wheels and trim.

Sweet truck. Listen to the 3FE guys though when it comes to maintenance, they know what's up.

Welcome to the team.
