Hey guys. My heater fan is super lame these days. I know I have seen some other options for replacement as they don't make them anymore. Can someone remind me?

Also my 69 has the under dash vent and for the life of me it isn't sealing up. Anyone have any idea what to do there.

Carmon, making sure the heater core is clear both inside and out will help. as will sealing the ducting from fan housing to the heater box. is your fan still spinning? maybe take it apart and lube and clean it.
Make sure sure if replacing the fan you get one from a 55 as the 40's are mounted the other way and spin in the oposite direction, so the squirrel cage is different. IIRC

Thanks Paul, i know the heater box is clear as I just rebuilt it. The ducting just got put on and the fan still spins but it just doesn't seem to be keeping up. I don't have alot of drafts just a few. I will pull it out and see if I can rework it a bit.

I'm betting on the brushes too. If you wait too long the armature will be "eaten" by the remains of the brushes.

Ok welp I guess I will get in there and tear it apart. Any idea where to get the brushes? I know I can get the thing rebuilt locally but if I can get the parts I could do it.

take the brushes out and to the motor shop, they should be able to find something close.....did you check for full voltage at the fan first?

Yep, voltage is good. It still works just not well. One more quick question. Is it suppose to be two speeds? I only ask because it had two settings on the switch but I only get one speed out of it.

The resistors are bad then (probably broken). You should have a few different speeds.

Thanks Charles. So it looks like I can get the brushes locally with no issues, but I have no idea on the resistors. Anybody know where I could get those? Do they allow for the lower fan speed or higher?

Do they allow for the lower fan speed or higher?

It could be low or high speed if it only works on one position of the switch. Check to make sure you get 12 volts at each end of the resistor. Should be 12 volts in one switch position and 12 volts in the other end when in the other switch position. The end of the resistor that has a wire running to the motor is your high speed wire. The wire that doesn't go to the motor will be low. In high speed it bypasses the resistor. In low speed the motor is in series with the resistor.
