heater resistor repair

I looked but could never find one so had to repair the old one. Some how it just came apart!! With a lot of solder and two part epoxy I think it might stay together. Hooked it up and seems to work fine..... But I now have air coming out of my a/c unit also, and it isn't on. It's cold air. Water came up to temp for the heat, the fan works on high and low, but pushing cold air out the a/c unit. The thing went through a five year, forgot how to put a lot of it back together, resto. It's probably something to do with the flapper at the bottom?? Man if I have to tear into the heat and a/c it will take awhile. The way this weather has been for us is a bit different. Any ideas you can throw at me feel free. The solder picture is a little out of focus, good thing though, there was a lot of solder.

If you don't have any luck with that resistor you could always get one made up. Look up a resistor manufacturer in your area and get in touch with them. They should even be able to make it with the same finish. Cost will be cheaper than what you would pay for a new OEM piece if it was available. To give you an idea I payed $60 for a 200W resistor last time I had one wound, that included mounting brackets.

Resistor repair

This happened to me and I got some good advice here. Take tthe resistor black sheath down to the bare wire metal, wrap a wire around the bare spot on the resistor (be careful not to grid off too much or you will grindl the wire on the resistor that is just below the black sheath), wrap a new wire around the bare spot solder all the way around to secure it - then solder the broken wire direct to this. It works. Wrap with electrical tape - done

I did get it working. Fan runs on high and low now. But I have to work on why the air is blowing out of the a/c unit now. Fix one problem, find another one.

My resister on my BJ-44 24Volt is broken, so with this link info I think I can attept a repair.

The 24 Volt is the issue as it makes everything on my vehicle odd-ball.

Yes. There is also a part number for another resistor that you can get from Allied Electronics - part number L50J1R - Search results for "L50J1R" - Allied Electronics <----link. You can see Coolerman's write up on his web page here - Front Heater Fun. The new resistor is $8. I decided to go that route. Works great.

I have been running my resistor that I repaired in this way for 2 years now.

I did read through the "Front Heater Fun" and will keep the part number handy. I like to work on things that don't work to begin with, cause I have no where to go but up. Still have to look into the cold air problem.
