Go here: Daniel Stern Lighting Consultancy and Supply and get some edumacation on lighting. Those kits look like plastic, and won't hold up to high output bulbs. Pattern is likely crap. Also the claim of higher output with the same wattage is BS, likely just a blue tint (which leads to glare and annoyance of other drivers).

The link in my signature shows the upgrade I did to my 62.

It says tempered glass lens. I just want to make sure the housing is good, because like I said I am going to order the H4 hid kit for this.
BTW those bulbs that come with the kit suck really bad. I installed them on my family's Sequoia a couple of years ago, and the beam was off, and the popped in less than a month.

For $20 bucks, it might be worth taking the chance. You aren't out much if it doesn't work.

you have to see if you can get spare replacement bulbs too. if not, you will have to start all over again soon.

I heard wiring harnesses was often the difference between cheap kits and the good kits.

also, i would measure the volts actually getting to your headlights. if you are not getting 12volts, it could be a worn wiring harness, or a bad connection along the way that is creating resistance, leading to weak beams. We recently did an upgrade on my 40 using relays and going straight off the battery.

I got some of these so i cold replace my dead units. Like you said the bulds stink, I replaced them with some Sylvania Silverstars and now have a nice bright light. They are by no means the best solution but for the $$ they are fine.

When I get some more $$ for the headlights I will replace the lenses with Hella's. They have a great pattern and will hold up to a 120 bulb. They are harder to find but definetly worth the $$. Also for my 4Runner I replaced the wiring, best thing you can do.

I picked up a pair from autopal on ebay. (eBay Motors: 165mm H4651 H4656 H1 H4 EURO CONVERSION HEADLIGHTS SET (item 230154656431 end time Feb-16-08 22:09:19 PST)) I think it set me back $46 to my door with new 90/100 watt bulbs.

They didn't fit quite right in the headlight buckets, and the bulb mounting wasn't up to my standards, but they work alot better than my old headlights, they have a much better pattern than my old sealed bulbs, and thus I have no regrets picking a pair up.

I ended up buying these after doing some research, and found someone on some Jeep or XJ site who had done extensive research, and found the autopals to be the best bang for the buck.
