Wagner 9011's from RockAuto, its a Philips bulb is less fancy packaging for less than $10
Awesome thank you -- 9011 sounds like the way to go and glad to hear the color is standard and not blue!

Just ordered high and low beam bulbs, figured I'd do all four as they may well be original (2 x 9011 and 2 x 9012 long life) from RockAuto. They didn't have enough Wagner's in stock for the 9011 so went with Philips. Thanks for the tips here.

Here are some interesting threads I read along the way:

Those bulbs are about as good as you will get with the old housings without getting flashed, I'd say another 30% more light. Makes them tolerable.

Just an update on replacing bulbs. It is not necesarely as easy as unscrewing the bulb as stated elsewhere on this post. On my 94 HDJ80 the bulbs are fixed with a spring that has to be removed. And the spring is located under a rubber seal that is not easy to remove from inside engine department, not to mention insert it again.
After struggeling from inside I had do take out the complete headlight assembly. Here is how:
Unscrew 4 10 mm bolts. Two on the top, one bheind the blinker and one behind the sidelight.
Loosen the grille. Two screws on top, one inside the grille on the headlight side and one clips in the middle. Bend the grille as much as possible, without breaking it. Fiddle the headlight partly out. Done in half an hour.

Your HDJ80 doesn't use same bulb type that the USDM 80s use.
