$59K? Wow that would be a great return on your investment! Maybe you should head to Washington and sort out the Fed. with performance like that... Glad you like it, enjoy!

And X2 on just change the beb, I've had mine done twice.

If you really understood what's in this vehicle and what it takes to build one like it, you'd know that there's not much return at 59K. Low yield bonds would be a better investment, but not quite as fun to enjoy of course.

Pretty typical to get bombs from the peanut gallery, but feel free to elaborate if you actually have anything to say.

The peanut gallery being people who have owned the trucks in question for years here in North America? Who know what it actually costs to import one, maintain one, use one? Ok then...

Sure- happy to oblige! The peanut gallery has imported many JDMs over the last 10 years. your initial statement

- "if you are buying a truck someone else imported into the US from Japan, you're buying one that I skipped. Sorry for the shameless plug, it's just true."

- just comes off as a bit arrogant. Particularly as you have inserted your business plea into the OP's thread where he was requesting help with a maintenance issue. Glad your business reputation can afford such proclamations- I wish I was you!

You might want to reconsider your post going forward, some potential buyers might be repelled by your tone...- Oh dont worry...

Save yourself the headache and buy from Land Cruisers Direct - Home. Every HDJ81 in stock is certified mileage, certified no wreck/repair/flood/radiation/damage, connecting rod bearings (BEB's) changed on every 1HDT truck, timing belt and tension pulley changed on every truck that needs it or where the last change is undocumented. I buy the best trucks available, if you are buying a truck someone else imported into the US from Japan, you're buying one that I skipped. Sorry for the shameless plug, it's just true.

Certified mileage? How the hell do you absolutely certify mileage on an auction JDM?

Still waiting to hear what exactly you're disagreeing with here. Happy to debate misinformation.

Sorry if the tone offends you, I haven't found a better way (other than showing inventory) to explain that LCD brings in the absolute best vehicles. I buy every nice one available, regardless of price. Sometimes I get burned because of the inflated cost, but I'm committed to providing the absolute best vehicles. So you're taking issue with my tone, yet you have claimed I'm making false statements, still happy for you to elaborate and happy to discuss for everyone to read.

Certified mileage? How the hell do you absolutely certify mileage on an auction JDM?

At the auction, there's not much chance to confirm mileage except for a few industry tricks that can provide some insight. Post-purchase, mileage can be certified by checking for any odometer statements reported during its history and looking for discrepancies. Much like Carfax, but incredibly more accurate. This is more in-depth and requires more time than the auction-paced-purchases can provide. However if a vehicle fails this odometer inspection, I sell it back in the auctions immediately. Luckily our pre-inspection process is so thorough that this has only happened once so far. As stated, I'm committed to bringing in the best vehicles, if they don't meet my standards, I cut them loose, even if it's for a loss.

So yes, I stand by my statement that LCD has the absolute best vehicles available from Japan. It's true. I'm sorry if that tone sounds more like cockiness than confidence.

Ahh- the paperwork they provide you with is ironclad....

Vehicles in Japan are taxed based on age and mileage. Because of this, odometer reporting is very accurate. It takes some legwork to check records in every Japanese prefecture, but it's the only way to find any legit discrepancies. Accompanied with the detailed inspection mentioned previously, I feel very comfortable that the odometer certification of each LCD vehicle is accurate. Some importers who are less diligent or less detail oriented may have different results.

Your prices are crazy. You can buy an amazing already built fzj80 and a parts donor hdj80, rebuild every part of everything that moves and have it towed across the country to a reputable shop to convert it and still be way ahead of you. Confirmed mileage means nothing in Japan given their maintenance habits leave much to be desired and all of their milage is crazy city miles who know how many thousands of hours are on them. They should have hour meters as opposed to odometers. No matter what your standards are you sell used trucks.

Well, yes they are used trucks, no one says differently. But they are the best used trucks available, and I stand by that. Maintenance habits in Japan are typically impeccable. If your car breaks down, you get a ticket. And I definitely take issue with your proposition that you could convert an FZJ80 to a diesel drivetrain and "rebuild every part of everything that moves" for cheaper than buying an HDJ81 from LCD. It's obvious that you've not done such a project, and if you have and still want to claim it's cheaper then I have to question your commitment to quality and would hate to see the "result" of your build. My personal truck is loaded beyond loaded. It costs money to build a truck like that. Stock HDJ81's that have been through my process and are ready for customers are in the high teens to mid twenties. Price reflects quality, condition and options.

Well sorry, I figure since exaggerating claims is the theme of this thread I should too to fit in. It's good to see more importers.

Which claims are being exaggerated? The theme of this thread was asking about what to look for in an HDJ81. Maybe I shouldn't have chimed in, but now that I have, I'm happy to defend every statement I've made and discuss any questions.

Rjk, I didn't know your question is directed to me. I'm in Canada so I don't know who is in California to help you out. Perhaps the Cali guys can chime in. As far as building a truck in the states and shipping it to London to begin a trans Asian trip ending up in India with a mobile medical truck I've got no clue how to do that. You also mentioned going to Africa too. India and Africa are themselves very far apart and I serously don't the territory in between is a simple paved highway. i respect your commitment to helping those in need, but perhaps building a truck closer to your destination is more feasible. If you are having trouble locating a competent mechanic in California....well it won't get easier where you plan on going.id take your mechanic and tools with you on your journey.

Why not sell your rig in the USA and buy one in the UK? They were actually sold new in the UK. Buy the newest low km one you can. Maybe with a 1hdft? Will save you money compared to shipping from the USA. Lots of shops in the UK that know diesel Toyotas I'm sure.

This thread really went down the toilet BTW. :flush: Hopefully a mod comes in and deletes the last page or so of posts.
