hi, its been quite a while since i've gone to these boards. i would like to ask you guys some concerns that may come up with my upcoming swap/
i had replaced my LJ78 front clip with that of a HZ77 series clip and since the old 2LTE engine died i went with a 1KZ swap which was pretty much straight forward. I like the auto tranny and makes wheeling and going to the grocery an easy chore. i would like to ask if the auto tranny from my 2LTE which im using on my 1KZ can be used with a 1HDT ? or can i just use my transfer case to the HDT own tranny?
the 1KZ is a great engine to use but a chance to put a 1HDT is just to hard to pass up. any comments?
thanks in advance

now that will be a swap i want to experience.
i wonder how the rear smaller diff will stand up to the torque of that engine...

i believe the imput shafts are a different length for the trannies. are you getting both engine and tranny? if so that would answer a lot of questions...

how much better did the truck run with the KZ installed? did you do a KZ swap write up somewhere so i can do a read??

When are the 7X KZJ's going to be eligible for Import anyway Wayne?

i'll be getting the engine and auto tranny. can i use my original t-case? my diff are already 4.88 and the diff of the 80series are 4.1, i know they have a pretty low tcase gearing. any drawbacks on this?
i wasn't able to do a swap write up. i had an electrician who pretty much used the 2LTE harness. engine mounts was moved about 2inches forward if i remember correctly.
the 1KZ is fast compared to the 2LTE but can't catch up with the new 1KD CDRI diesels. non smoker but still a thirsty beast. i have placed EGT and boost sensor as wayne suggested and egts go as high as 450F boost is kept at 8-12psi.
a virtual bolton. just remember to have the original bellhousing that goes with the engine. it bolt on the tranny easily.

the first KZJ 71 and KZJ78 rolled off the line nov of this importation year.
so Jan you will start to see a few coming in...

With a custom made adapter you could mate up a 1HD-T, anything is possible. One of the biggest problems is the Flywheel is much larger on a 1HD-T. The auto behind the the Prado engines is the same unit in the Surf/4Runners (A34"X") and is a good auto but not meant for high torque.

at what temp in my egt should i worry? i placed it about 12 inches from the end of the turbo flange. the bost gauge actually reads low.must be someting wrong with my connection

1250 ºF is your magic number .. I keep mine safe under 1200 always .. but I have complete exhaust up to the rear wheel on driver side.

12" past turbo is too far. I have mine about 3" below turbo and I see 450-500F at normal use with a intercooler on my 13B-T. About 720kF is the max I see. You want to remember that the farther away your probe is from the turbo, the cooler the temps. Someday I hope to have the probe in the exhaust manifold.

Good shot .. My bad .. din't take care about the distance of the probe and if it's post or pre turbo ..

The magic number applies if your probe it's in the Exhaust manifold and for sure .. pre turbo, Your turbo cool at least 200 ºF your EGT readings ..

thanks for all your replies. i guess i better re attach my egt probe further up. its about 12inches from the turbo exhaust manifold.
regarding the 1HD-T i guess i'll get the whole engine, tranny set. less complications in the swap.

Pulag this is a very interesting swap I hope you can do a write up for the HD T engine swap and maybe with some nice pics :)

Did the front clip of the HZ77 fit well? Can you post some pics....
