Well my point was that where I live isn't even VA-south. It's D.C. Metro. Sure, there's a monument honoring the confederate dead not a mile from my house, but there's nothing that feels "south" about where I live.

I know, I know, I'm just givin' you a hard time. But you don't have to drive too far south (or west) to hit the "real" south.

Whoa now. Big difference. Potato wedges are wedge shaped with skin on. Steak fries are rectangular.

Damn, I think you're right. But I've seen the wedges called steak fries.

Call them what you want, this thread thread really makes me appreciate how much I love potatos fried in oil and salted.

Potatoes are the food of the gods. Fxxxing manna from heaven. I could eat them with every meal for the rest of my life and never tire of them. Fried/baked/boiled/mashed/whatever.

Mmmm, potoatoes...

That's what I'm saying. The wife and I did a whole baked potato feast for dinner one night last week. Sour cream, cheese, bacon, chives, broccoli... the works. Fawk, those things were good. I didn't realize how long it had been since I'd had a baked potato.

Mobile, New Orleans, Savannah and Charleston are not "Southern." They are more similar to one another than to any other places in their respective states.

We obviously have differing opinions of what constitutes "southern". The cities you mention are more cosmopolitan than the surroundings, but are still very different from say Baltimore or Philadephia, and still maintain southern traditions and attitudes.

Potatos, people, potatos. :flipoff2:

Dave, what are your thoughts on the "homefries" issue?

I think they "seem" Southern. They are all like one another, and not like anywhere else in America. That is my only point. They are just...different.

Are you preventing me from hijacking a thread? How dare you keep chat focused! :D

Homefries, I love 'em. Growing up in the south we called them hash browns. My Dad, from PA, always called them homefries. What do you call a sub sandwich? :flipoff2:

Please do not call me Dave. My answer is that I love potatoes.

I wasn't calling you Dave; I was calling Dave Dave. Didn't we all just learn that your name is Jay?

Right, but WTF are homefries? Are cubed, fried potatos homefries? What about if I add onions and cheese?

A sub sandwich is a sub. It's not a hogie or a hero.

Ok then, what the **** exactly is a "homefry?"

Hash browns, AFAIK.

Home fries

Home fries are a type of potato dish made by frying diced, shredded, or sliced potatoes that have been par-cooked by boiling, baking, steaming, or microwaving. The potatoes are cooled between the two stages. Thus, they differ from french fries, which are cooked primarily by deep-frying.

The frying is typically done in butter or vegetable oil, and chopped onions, pepper, and other ingredients are typically added.

The consistency depends on the type of potato used. Although various types of white potatoes are the most popular base, sometimes waxy (usually red-skinned) or sweet potatoes are used.

In many countries, Home fries are usually served for breakfast. There are many ways people eat them, for example with ham and eggs, or covered with ketchup. In some locations, home fries are even used as a pizza topping.

Home fries can also be a part of a Full English Breakfast.
