Taking a trip into George Washington national forest to do some exploring. If there is any VA folks what comms is most frequently used on the trail.

It seems that GMRS is overtaking CB for groups going on the trail together.

How about all 3…

Guys, I have not used a CB since 1976…brought back a ton of old memories… that movie “Convoy” with Kris Kristofferson …the song “Teddy Bear” by Red Sovine …and the craze when CB went from reasonable coverage and late night skip to hardly 2 blocks away in noise. 😂

You’ve missed out on a lot of “your Mama” jokes

I dunno about that forest, but out here in the sierras, it is:

1) ham radio. amateur radio clubs have blanketed the Sierras with ham radio repeaters and my local club, Toyotally Awesome Cruisers, uses ham for that reason. We have a frequency for convoy coms and can tune into the repeaters for broader comms.

2) CB radio is used by logging trucks in some areas. Nice to know when an unstoppable force is heading down the mountain at you.

3) some folks will use gmrs for convoy comms with privacy codes. I haven't come across any public gmrs users in my area.
