...and Passed! I was nervous about it since my dual filler neck does not have a restrictor and has a non-standard cap. Actual emissions numbers looked excellent. Now I can relax about it for another 2 years

So you passed the new fuel system pressure test with the dual tanks? Nice!
They didn't pressurize the tanks - I think because it's a 97. I just chatted and smiled and chatted with them the whole time while during the test - keeping things light and friendly. I think this helped them not get caught up on certain "issues" like the cap.

Interesting - they pressurized my '94 when I went for smog last year. I thinkyou got away with something. ;) hehehe Good for you! I thought that test was required on all vehicles.

I have been nailed for a smog cert. ever year except one with my 94. This year will be my 5th smog in 6 years. I feel like I am getting hosed.

So they didn't care that you didn't have a restrictor in the filler neck? I heard you can fail on the visual without it so i installed one in my OZ spec filler.

They pressurized my '93 with dual tanks. No problem.. just make sure you go in with full tanks. Also, i know the guy that did mine and i would have failed just on the gas cap alone. He passed me anyhow.

Glad to hear the stress is over.

I just did smog twice in one year because i sold and re-bought the LC.

It was actually kind of funny. Once he was ready to check out the cap/filler, I just kept the conversation going. I was talking about my plans to drive the truck around the world and how I'm very interested to visit his home country - asking questions about life back home, engaging him etc. He pulled the cap off and none of his adapters would work on it (it's Oz spec) for the test so he casually picked up one that was laying around and "tested" that one. Then he looked at the filler, scratched his head, and asked me if it was orignal. I just said, "Yeah, you know, to drive in foreign countries it has to able to take any kind of grade of gas or any nozzle. That's how it's always been." He shrugged his shoulders and input "pass" into the computer.

I felt like I was at an appraisal - I do the same dog and pony schmooze show for my listings when I have to defend the sales price in this declining market where appraisers constantly under-appraise properties. I'm just glad it's over cuase I was really dreading it.

Wow, thats rad. You got lucky. See if you can get that guy next time.

I've been reamed for having a Turbo City 50 state legal Air Intake before! I even showed the sticker to the person and they called it in. Those are the guys you have to watch out for.

Exactly why I went back to the same shop that passed me 2 years ago. I was sure to point out what a loyal customer I am.

it's only the 96 and older who get the pressure treament, IIRC...

OBD II cars do not get a pressure test (ECM DOES EVAP TEST), OBD I cars get pressure test..... 94 and older get tested, 95 and newer just have to pass with the check engine light off and no codes stored.......

If you have had 6 years of consecutive smog you have probably failed a test with results of a gross polluter........

I have a customer that has a 94 NSX and he failed smog once now he has to have a smog every year for registration renewals.....

I had to get smogged this year again. Went to a new place, a 15min smog type place. This guy went nuts on the visual, he took like 5 min just looking for the O2 sensors even though I got on my knee and pointed up under the passenger side, then when he finally saw them he saw they were new as of a couple years ago and basically grilled me about why they were so shiny looking....give me a break man

Glad you had such a nice time of it! I'd stick with them too :)

Sounds about right. My truck eats O2 sensors for snacks and one was out one time when I smogged. Failed O2 and now I have to smog every year and the registration form does say gross polluter on it. I've passed with flying colors for years now, but I still have to go every damn year. I don't think you ever get off the gross polluter list once on it!
