Kurt,
Do a search. Somewhere we recently finished a thread w/ the tooth counts, ratios and years of the USA split T-cases.

Edit: found it. see this thread for the exact ratios and dates for all USA split T-cases

Thanks!

So, does anyone know the tooth count on a OE H55F mated split-case with the 1.999?

Wow, thanks for all the info, but getting somewhat confused here. To summarize, I am looking at an 86 Split TC, so I will need to do the following to make sure it is the right one:

- measure the idler shaft, got it, thanks for the pics
- make sure it has an oiler cup so I am sure it will lubricate the 5th gear, sounds like some say there are versions without this. I would like to verify the one I am buying has it, what does it look like and where is it found on the TC? pics would be great.

To summarize the install:

- I will need to bolt the H55 to the 2f bellhousing, does this require grinding at all on the 2f bhousing? I have seen both yes and no answers in different threads, the engine and bhousing are from a 76 fj40

- I will need to acquire an fj60 crossmember for the same year FJ60 Transfer case and modify it to fit my FJ55 frame. Anyone have pics or info on the best way to accomplish this? just cut and add/remove metal and reweld together?

- I will need to tap and plug a hole in the split transfer case. Easy enough, I can figure out which one after I get the TC.

- I will need to get a disc brake split case conversion kit. With this I will not need the stock fj60 split tc flanges, correct? as the rear dshaft will bolt right up to this.

Am I forgetting anything? Thanks again to everyone for all the help and comments.

You can realistically use any split case from ~83' - 1/90'.

Ideally you find the 4/86' - 8/87' manual shift, 38mm. Though the ~83' - 4/86' 34mm cases will work just fine too. We havn't come to the conclusion when in 83' the oiling provision started, I think it might actually be 10/82' but I have nothing to back that up.

As noted the 8/87'-90' ones are vacuum shift, but if that all you can find its a fairly straightforward swap to manual. They should all have the oiling provision, but make sure.

When you get a split-case, let us know the specs (year, teeth, etc)

OK Drew, the mystery continues :D

34mm, no oiler provisions, no hole. This is from an 82' US spec. FJ60

Its obvious they didn't put the oiler, as the H55F wouldn't come out for another year (83')

But, the H42 didn't change until the spacer was added in 85' right?

So I guess the real mystery... do all short style H42's have the extra bolt hole? I have two loose H42's here, both have spacers.

Any have a loose short style 19 spline H42 (80'-10/84') transmission they can snap a picture of? :D

Cool-

Yep I have an 84 combo in my garage. All I need is a day off and an hour or two. It's a no spacer tranny with 34mm shaft.

I might be able to get to that on Sunday afternoon if work isn't too busy.

You should count the teeth on that one.
