So for the models that use the h28 connector, the main harness supplied by the radio doesn't have a mating connector? That's why you need to buy the one from amazon?

For those that have actually installed this radio has anyone installed off-road navigation software like GaiaGPS? I’m curious as to how well it works and how the maps render on the display.

I was able to install using the same H28 harness and the airbag light went away. Thanks @SSG My first attempt apparently must have had poor connections, but after rewiring the splice, no airbag light and all good. Now for getting a new backup camera installed and all will be perfect. If someone has a good progress or sense of how best to run wires to the back of the car (easiest route), please share.
I can't imagine having to go back to the OEM setup based on using this for a few days and once you know what to do to tear the dash apart it's amazingly quick, as I ended up taking mine apart probably 5 times in total by the time this was all done. Now it would be easy enough to do right the first time in less than 30 minutes.

I went to through the passenger side under the doors..and through the rear swing door grommet...there's a ground bolt back there as well..mounting the camera is hardest part.

Running my HAM antenna wire to my rear bumper, I just ran it on the passenger side, inside, under the lip of the door tread plates. I also used a stubby large tip flat screwdriver to help push/tuck in under. It when pretty easy just running under all the hard plastic trim on the passenger side all the way to the rear door. Being that my antenna is mounted on my bumper I didn't need to run it into my rear door.
But...
I had to relocate my backup camera to my rear bumper because my spare tire and jerry can mounts obstructed the camera's view.
IF you go to my build thread here: Builds - R2M 2013 GX460 Overland Build
This will have some pictures of the rear door taken apart and how I mounted/relocated my backup camera.

Does this unit maintain the factory stereo/amp setup, or does it replace all that? I have a 2016 Lux, and want to make sure this won’t be a step backwards in sound quality compared to the stock ML sound.

Sound quality seems good, you lose asl...but I didnt use it anyways

Bumping this back up again. Has anybody downloaded any offline navigation software from the google play store to this radio such as GaiaGPS or Earthmate?

If so, can you use it in full screen mode? Also, does the tablet have expandable storage via a microSD slot or usb flash drive in order to download offline maps?

I have one of these radios on order from RhinoRadios but i probably won't see it until March due to the factory being shut down for the corona virus outbreak.

Hummm... why not just use Google maps on Android? You can download offline maps and route off of those!

You get a hell of a lot more functionality with GaiaGPS or Earthmate. They are made specifically for this purpose.

If you can you should cancel your order from Rhino Radios, they are horrible to deal with if you have any issues or support questions.

I would order from here instead: [ PX6 Six-core ] 15" Android 9 Fast boot Navigation Radio for Lexus GX 400/460 2010 - 2018

Phoenix helped me with support even with my order being from Rhino Radios. Rhino Radios support is close to non-existent.

I ended up selling my GX460 and picked up a 200 series LC and in the future I will probably get a tablet style radio but it will be from Phoenix.

Since they are local to me, do they do installs also?
I keep going back and forth on one of these. One of the downs sides is I don't want something that bright in my cockpit when I'm driving at night.

Duly noted, would you mind addressing any of the questions that I've asked? 😃

I was curious too and emailed them. They said it’s $200 and requested a dash pic to confirm compatibility. I may go ahead and do this.

If you pull the trigger, after the install, would you consider if I were to visit or have a coffee someplace to check out how it all came off? I'm just in San Clemente.

Since my questions have gone unanswered, i'll go ahead and start a new thread and will go over in great detail the features that these radios offer the end user who plan on using it in their off-road rigs. I just got word that mine should be shipping this week.

Sure, I'm still debating pulling the trigger haha. I'll let you know. Main thing I'm nervous about is losing some of the hard adjustable controls. It will likely be a couple months before I get it done as I have a lot of other things I want to do first.

Agreed, I too like the hard controls.

I have one of these units in my hand now. I attempted to install it on Sunday but quickly became frustrated due to the lack of documentation that came with it. I opened up a ticket to request a copy of an instruction manual from Rhino, as I simply couldn't mate up some of the plugs with the factory harness.

I was able to get the unit to power up and it had very low audio on the front speakers only. USB did not work, nor did bluetooth. I may take another stab at it this weekend if the weather permits.
