Those are my favorite shoes. I can't even tell you how many pairs of those I've owned. They also make the Moab in a uniform duty boot so I wear them to work as well!Nice setup! I have those same Merrell hiking shoes!
I've been wearing Merrell's trail running shoes with the Vibram soles for the past 25 years. They are my go-to shoe. Those are my favorite shoes. I can't even tell you how many pairs of those I've owned. They also make the Moab in a uniform duty boot so I wear them to work as well!
I have been thinking about getting a motorcycle carrier for the hitch, but I worry about having 300-400lbs hanging that far behind the axle (I think my dirt bike is 330 wet). Do you have airbags in the rear, and how much does it squat when loaded?Second weekend out of three living out the back and doing a dual sport on my 250.

I do not have airbags. My WR weighs about 300 lb and the carrier is about 40. There is some squat but it's not a big deal especially considering how convenient the carrier is.I have been thinking about getting a motorcycle carrier for the hitch, but I worry about having 300-400lbs hanging that far behind the axle (I think my dirt bike is 330 wet). I have been thinking about a hitch mount carrier for the GX but I am worried about the weight that far behind the axle. I think my dirtbike is about 330lbs wet and I only have the curt hitch mount. Which hitch do you have and do you have rear airbags/heavy duty springs to keep everything level?
Big Bear??
Thanks for the feedback! I might just have to order one of those. Also that last picture is great, always nice to meet someone who appreciates comedy.I do not have airbags. My hitch is the Draw Tite bolt on, basically the same as your Curt. I've hauled the bike with this setup at least a dozen times, longest two runs were 600 miles round trip 2 weekends ago and 600 miles round trip this weekend. No issues.
Carrier is the surprisingly decent $189 AMC-400:
When I lived in California I hauled the WRR from my home to Tennessee and back for March Moto Madness one year (on my 4Runner). That was over 5,000 miles round trip. No issues then either.

Here's a side view which shows... errr... squat....

Well to be clear this is a WR 250 R which is a dual sport / street legal. It's not the WR.Love the vehicle placement on that second picture haha.
How do you like the WR? I've been looking at WRs, YZFXs, and CRFs for trail riding. Debating on 250 v 450 as well. Do you find the 250 is enough? This will be my first bike since my teens when I had a CR80 and XR100.
Oh nice. Thank you for the info! I thought you had just plated a WR. I didn't realize Yamaha used to sell a dual sport version. I'm just looking for simple trail riding, so sounds like a great option.Well to be clear this is a WR 250 R which is a dual sport / street legal. It's not the WR.
I like it a lot. It's a great bike. Regrettably, they were discontinued in 2020 so they are only available used now.
It's not super torquey and it's power is made high in the rev range, so it can be a little busy to ride with a lot of shifting required. It's power is perfectly adequate for me though, and the low maintenance requirements are awesome (26,000 mile valve checks, for example)
If you want to race, or you think a EXC 350 is underpowered, then the WRR would be a terrible choice for you. But for plonking around on trails and gravel and still being able to ride the road at 65, and just having a good time, it's great.
I think most of the current Japanese dual sport 300s would be on par with it - KLX300S, CRF300L.

That was last night.I read that there will be some pretty low latitude northern lights coming. Some day, I'll be up there when they happen and see them for myself!
Same here. Was cloudy as hell here in Connecticut, saw nothing
