i think my go-to combo would be the GX and a little coupe like an S2000 / Miata. Porsche would be great but... pcar tax. Granted I'm sure I can't find an S2K for too cheap, either. I think a Z3 or Z4 would work too, but that comes with BMW things.
 
Miatas are the best. I miss mine every day, it's only a matter of time until I get another. Take her for a drive in one with the roof down on a nice day and she'll get it.

1st generation Boxsters (986) don't come with much of a pcar tax. I found one for about the price of a clean Miata and much less than a s2000 a few years ago. Parts and maintenance are probably more expensive when something goes wrong, but I do my own work and the Porsche uses a pretty stout engine design aside from the IMS bearing, which took about a weekend of work to replace, and I threw in a new clutch while I was at it. My preference would have been a BMW Z3 coupe, but they are impossible to find and command a significant premium over the convertibles.
 
That’s a nice pic! The ND3 is the one I’m after when we get a few more used ones on the market.
ND3 is as good as the Miata gets. I'd buy a Club in Soul Red with the Recaro/BBS package in a heartbeat if I had the money.

No they don't have the tax that 911s do but working on the engine can be a major PITA with the top sitting right above it. & I actually saw a Clownshoe today! Weird things, always a fan.
Have to admit that I do like the post popup headlights best, and they've actually become better looking as the newer gens come out.
Popup headlights will always be the best, but those cars are getting on in age.

I test drove one before I bought my Boxster. It was a little ratty and the guy wanted more than I was willing to part with, but it was one of the only clown shoes I have seen for sale locally. If I ever have another chance I don't think I can pass it up.

I rode in one, around an autocross track. It had 200 UTQG tires and coilovers and holy crap could that thing corner and handle.

They really knocked it out of the park with the ND styling and the upgraded engine in the newer ones is icing on the cake. One of my neighbors has one of the RF hardtops lowered on nice shocks, fat tires on nice wheels, and an exhaust. She's a little old lady and it's a 6 speed and she rules.

The RF is one of the prettiest cars on the road at any price but I will say that the buffeting at speed with the top down can be very bothersome. The NC's PRHT is the best of both worlds.
 
Did Slaughterhouse Gultch and was determined to keep up with the Rubicons that were on 35s and 37s. I was successful. Truck was a beast. ATRAC impressed everyone. All damage is superficial plastic that will probably be cut off in the very very near future.

Besides the exhaust needing some adjustment, I see no damage I would feel uncomfortable with. Well done.

Yup, those were my thoughts. I told the folks I was with that anything below such and such a point didn't matter. It did make me think I might do a rear bumper first.
