I sent the GX in to the two prominent auction websites and was offered to list it on both (obviously can only do one), with reserves that I'm very comfortable with

Trying to decide if I should or not... and if I'll miss the GX or not.
what will you be replacing it with, if anything?

my daughter came home last night and asked why we dont have a cybertruck, an EV of any sort, or a bronco? told her if she likes to go on our adventures, the gx is the vehicle that will take us there. plus daddy doesnt want a car payment.

Yup, you're gonna miss it... ;)

I alluded to it earlier in this thread but I'm looking at the 2nd gen (~2018) Colorado ZR2. I know the 8-speed has some issues and the V6 is a downgrade from the 4.6 but I like that it has F/R lockers standard and I'm just ready for a change.

Inevitably in some way/shape/form.

zr2 is awesome, especially in the bison trim. out of the box off roader.

I looked at the ZR2 back in 2020 when I ended up buying the GX. The Multimatic dampers are very cool and it has basically all of the off road goodies right from the factory.

Yup, that's the big appeal to me. Upgrades don't need to be extensive for it to be really solid on the rocks. Fitting 35"s is apparently a bit of a project but the locking diffs is a huge lure. Gonna go look at one and do a car seat test.

I think the ZR2 and Ranger Raptor are pretty close in price. Any reason you're not considering the Ranger? It's triple locked and seems to be a pretty awesome truck too. Just wondering.

New vehicles aren't a consideration. This is purely a price/expense equation. I'm looking at a 2018 ZR2; the Ranger Raptor wasn't in the States until the 2024 Model Year. The new vehicles have a price of 2x what I'm eyeing.

The nice thing about off roading a GX is that any hang ups you might have about chopping off plastic or sheet metal in the fenders goes out the window pretty quick so you won't have that holding you back with the ZR2. Plus you don't have to stop being pretentious about your fancy suspension you just get to tell everyone about spool valves instead of hydraulic sway bars.

I've gone back forth each time I get a new vehicle between a PU and SUV, starting before SUV was even a name with a FJ55. Have had most brands and will say that I am done with American vehicles. And most likely pickups although if I have to put a skunked dog in the GX that will get me thinking again LOL. Every once in a great while I do miss a PU. Until I drive in the winter. This is from a truck thread about RAM beating both Ford and Chevy in reliability last year on CR all hell broke loose.

I do not disagree with the list. The GX does take maintenance especially once you get up around 100K but then again so do most vehicles. Some more than others. I went through 2 trannies plus a rebuild in 120K miles with my Dodge PU. That was decades ago but still...

There s an old adage in both Africa and Australia that says If you want to go into the bush you take a Land Rover, but if you want to get back out you take a Landcruiser. Land Rover in that statement should be a variable, and you could put in a lot of other brands to replace it.

Yep, I had one tacoma for 10 years and all I did was oil and brake pads, ball joints, u joints and the starter solenoid contacts, while having it from 50-170k miles.

It was killed by someone who hit me and left the scene.
I was only out of pocket 2k in lost value from when I bought it and what I got from the insurance company. It was 8500 at 4 years old and 50k because someone spilled something into the extended cab cubbies and it got moldy and made the truck smell like cat piss.

That was the best vehicle I ever owned, for not letting me down.

My GX is already chopped up, trimmed the rear bumper myself and have had an Ironman bumper on it since 01/2022. Apparently you still need to hack up the fenders to fit 35"s...

The only P/U that I owned was a 2005 Avalanche from 2008-2014. I used the bed all the time. The SUV aspect of the GX is nice a lot of the time but frankly it's just not that much space back there. Yes, it's a "midsize" SUV and not a "fullsize," but it's still super easy to pack to the brim. With home ownership and the likes now I'm thinking having a bed wouldn't suck.
