Cheers,

I love the Koan setup so much. I've had one in my shopping cart for a month but just cant swallow the $150 shipping fee to get it here.

Hey here is a video showing an affordable home made option (it should start at 12:30)

I have also thought about making a wooden frame similar to KOAN or OGB's frame to support additional weight above and beyond what the video above shows.

Save the oz shipping for other more unique parts... go DIY for a table. My son made this as a gift, has worked great on two backcountry trips.... (uses two pins to hold in place)

Beautiful setup, you have a talented kid! I want to make something like this. Do you have any pics of the pins you mention to hold the table upright?

Thanks for compliments. I've been on several more backcountry trips and this table is working great. More pictures are posted in this other thread (and I can add some pin pictures in next 24hrs)....

The Kaon setup is nice but that shipping...

Love the look of this table! If you don't mind me asking, how does it secure closed? And does it rattle at all while you drive? I think I'm going to steal your son's excellent design.

Secures with two pins - you can see an image in post #30 linked above "how much do you like...tailgate" thread... Welcome you to rif on the idea - and post a picture afterwards. No significant rattle.

Cheers,
Did you use the supplied fasteners to attach the mounting brackets to the door, or something else?
I'm concerned about making it as strong as possible since it's going into plastic.

I've considered removing the panel and attaching a backing plate with machine screws, using pop rivets, or just using the supplied hardware because I'm over-thinking things.

What do y'all think?

No need, I used what came with the kit and the table has held up great to lots of nights camping and what not. Been one of my favorite mods to the truck so far.

Seems like many rear table approaches (DIY and commercial products) tend to just bolt into the plastic door cover, rather than the metal of the door itself (whether that be via piano hinge at the bottom, or brackets on the sides like the Kaon). Has anyone had any long term issues with this approach (e.g. plastic warping/deforming, screws coming loose)? I was all ready to take the piano hinge or bracket on plastic approach, but Mountain Passes Offroad has a new piano hinge approach that's completely floating through the plastic via rivnuts and and standoffs that has me second guessing myself ().
