GSMTR Expo Pre-run @ Windrock. Sept 9/20-22

I would say meet @ the Windrock Parking area @ 12 Noon and leave by 13:00. Camp on the trail, probably on the Caryville Flatts depending on time. The most important thing is to figure out the best way to exit the Coal Creek property and enter RB. Camping saturday @ the Sand Pits is the plan. We can either come back down the ledges and exit that way or go out the other way which was very washed out last time we were there a few years ago.

As to the 100, I'm with Andy, I think its what we need to see how to plan the actual run. If we have to winch you up the ledges so be it...

I can't find my RB map so if anyone still has one, can you bring it to the Chattanooga Meeting?

Its pretty easy to exit the Flats and go directly into Royal Blue and go straight to the creek crossing at the base of the Sand Mines. It would be great to go off the back side of Sand Mines, but I can not figure out the schedule of when that gate is open or not. The last time I went off the north end I was lucky and it was open. So glad it was, I did not want to go back up the north side, but it was very wet.

IMHO, I think the routes through North Cumberland are great long distance, overnight stuff. Its kind of silly to think you can travel from Windrock parking lot to Caryville Flats in half a day, but take an entire day to go the short distance from Caryville Flats to Sand Mines. Albeit, the last bit of Sand Mines is brutal and will probably take all day dragging a 100 with a RTT around. I wish I could make it, so I could watch. There would be a cool route to go out the backside of Coal Creek towards Round Rock, to the Eternal Flame and then back up to Caryville Flats. I have done it many times on a moto but have never paid enough attention to whether its traversable in wagons. It would be epic.

I have the Royal Blue WMA map and also a Tennessee Atlas with detailed topo maps, scale is a little small but ties Windrock to RB.

Don't know if I should park my trailer/tow-rig truck at the park or some other location. Others coming out with trailers-tow/rig? I assume there is a charge for that. Sugguestions?

There should not be a problem leaving you truck in the parking lot there is no charge for parking.

Ok I'm in.... Got me some "new" shinny mirrors on the way...yeah does nothing on the trail but help me back up. I may not have time to disguise the chrome before I arrive (manual FJ62 OEM mirrors). Stock 60 mirrors suck. Now all I have to worry about is knocking them off the doors.

I think the safest place for us to leave our trailers will be in the lot across and up the road from the campground office, the one we used for trailers during GSMTR.
I will cook dinners and breakfasts so bring your lunches and Snacks.

I think I know where you are talking about...I belive its on the right hand side of the main campground road as you drive in from the front entrance (paved road). I have approved leave and plan to show up. I'll watch this thread as we get closer. I may get my heater core fixed before then but I have it bypassed right now so thats not a showstopper.

I've got some new p/s parts but I'm not sure I'll have the time / resources to get that stuff squared away before then but thats not a showstopper unless I get started on the job and can't wrap it up for some reason. I've got to get my buddy to make me a bracket for the remote ps resivor. So I dont go true custom with some large tie straps.

I bought a new starter but waiting on it to arrive...seems like the starter is dragging and I had a no-start issue on the trail last time...for no apparent reason. I like swapping parts first then figuiring out the issue later if that does not work.

I will be cooking breakfast and dinner so I need a good head count including passengers. I will be picking up the groceries on Wednesday morning, so please commit by Tuesday evening. I have an empty seat if someone wants to ride with me.

I'm in, although I'm going to show up with my dash all apart. Heater core job just too big a pain in the @$$ for me to finish by ride and I want to go because timing not right for me to show up on other rides at least right now as it pertains to work.

My temp gauge works and mechanical stuff works... but literally my dash is wiped out.

I'll shoot to be up at windrock by 12:00. as that seems to be the battle plan right now. I'll go look but is that EST or CST time @ windrock?

something that you guys might want to consider is expedition trailers. I was going to bring it up at the meeting had I been able to make it and then again on the weekend. I was not planning on bringing on M 416 but others knowing it's an expedition run might consider bringing some sort of a trailer. if the route is not really possible for a trailer it is something that we need to consider putting in the registration / briefing
