Just When I think I'm okay with the gadgets...you have to come out with a new one that I have to have. One more to the list, s***.
Here's where I put mine.
From my point of view, I cannot see the OEM coolant temp gauge (perfect ! )
I found that the coolant temp maxed out at 190°F on the highway or while parked.

I moved mine to the dip in the steering colum resting right on the dash. it doesn't block gauges- try it out, it will be cleaner.
I had to side plug it like you, no room at the back but still I like it centered.

I tried it there too but in order to get it into the "dip", I had to tilt the steering wheel lower than I like it (much like Ralph Cramden, I feel like I'm driving a bus).

Just ordered the Scangauge II today and they are now being shipped with the new firmware. As soon as the new codes are available from their website, you could enter them directly to the unit.

intake air temp and its been running as high as 150º...
Snorkel will lower intake air temps by 30-50 deg. When moving above 20mph or so, the air temp only runs about 10 deg above ambient.
I checked that very issue today. No I do not have a snorkel. The ambient temp was 64°F. The intake temp was 86°F at a cruising speed of 50 mph. The intake temp was 104°F when idling.
The greater the difference in temp between the engine and the intake temp, the more efficient the engine. So a snorkel will not only keep the water out but will also make the 80 happy.
I did a series of tests a year or so ago. They were intended to verify how effective a hole in the hood was at lowering IATs. It turned out that an old winter jacket wrapped around the filter canister provided the best drop in air temperature.
It basically shielded it from the hot air coming out of the fan. The thread is out there somewhere with all the data if interested.
I have one comming. I told my wife I wanted on for my bithday. She went to Jegs and told them what I wanted. She came home with some rice rocket computer that draws line graphs of engine rpm's, g-forces etc. She took it back and I gave her the link to the group buy. Im thinking about mounting it on the center console behind the transfer case shifter. Any opinions?
Has anyone tried mounting this in the uselss cubby location (where the LX has the cupholder) in the top of the center stack?

Try to keep the Scangauge near your normal line of sight (and not like my brother-in-law who drives while looking into the back seat (he's had more accidents than I can shake a stick at)). I see way to many people driving with their knees these days while sipping on their coffee, talking on the phone and flossing their teeth.
Definitely route the cable through the opening in the tilt steering column. Don't forget to remove the ODBII connector in the fuse panel and rotate it so that it points downwards. This requires a 90° rotation along a horizontal axis followed by a 180° rotation along a vertical axis. Plug in the connector and then remount the OEM connector using two screws. Tuck the cable inside the fuse panel and then wiggle it around back there until you see it through the opening around the steering column. Get a pair of needle nose pliers and snatch the cable end through the opening.

thanks guys, i did this at the end of last week and it is almost perfect! the speed is under 1mph off when compared to GPS.

The coolant and thermostat were replaced approx. 3 years ago, the rest of the cooling system are original (114Kmiles).
May be it's time for a new blue hub fan clutch?

FWIW that is what my temps run at but when the ambient temp is ~30F hotter (mid 80s). This is with original radiator etc AFAIK but with a new blue hub fan clutch (that I have yet to hear roar BTW
)Might be time to at least check your fan clutch...From what I've seen most say if your fan is original and you have 100K+ miles that you should go ahead and replace the fan clutch...
